Old news but I just found out about it! Everybody's favorite superhero simulator is back, in emulated form!?

QuoteThe project is Super Entity Game Server (or SEGS for short), which allows fans to run their own City of Heroes server. SEGS has just put out its first public release and compares itself to SWGemu in focus and goals. Right now the client is fairly limited, allowing players to make characters and walk around Atlas Park, but the team hopes that it will be expanded to include all of the content that City of Heroes had when it closed down.

I hope these guys are able to keep the heroic flames burning, its been a long time but I still miss mucking around in it.

A blast from the past.

I remember that I stopped playing long before it ended but near the end tried logging back in.. I was inundated with update notices and changes to my characters power set..

Over all I am not sure that game is deep enough to be worth resurrecting, it was fun for the time.

True that.

I miss SuperJump most of all, best travel power :D

In many ways I played it the same way I play GTAV Online, that is go online and noddle around for a few hours with a goofy avatar

My heart started beating 25% faster when I saw this thread title.

Why does this game still live rent free in my head and heart? Not complaining either. I just don't understand why I can't let it go, grow up, move on... :)

id software releases not only their old games, but the source code as well once a title has run its course. They give it to the community for free, the community does mods and source ports and so on, and this doesn?t seem to hurt their current titles. And if you want to go play the original Doom on a modern computer you totally can.

Perhaps NCSoft thinks giving CoH to the community would provide competition to their current titles, given the specific dynamics of MMOs?but that means they know it?s still a viable title, so why shut the game down in the first place? Why stubbornly sit on the IP for six years rather than selling it to someone who will do some good with it? NCSoft?s business practices never made a lick of sense to me.

I?m with you on the not being on with private servers.

This game though was running well into the black making a good chunk of cash and was shut down likely due to petty politics.

I loved the game. It was not my only mmorpg but i played it a couple off months a year and i sorely miss my characters, the environments, the enemies, the powers and MY MASTERMINDS.

I want it back. I would pay 60 dollars and a sub and buy @%&# in the cash shop all over again just to have it back. To nuke statesman. To die repeatedly on Hamidon. To run newspapers missions and make IO?s.

...NOW I FEEL SAD. :(

Also, there's a community on Reddit...

But things take time...

Like, 1.5 years into the future maybe.
