Today I built a road from the edge of the Grand Kingdom of Taj Moohal eastward, through the desert and into the forest: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-1300/64/-481/-1/0/1. At the end of the road, I started clearing a new space, and laying down a couple of main roads and some alleys: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-855/64/-535/-1/0/0.
Why, you ask? Well, I'm hoping that sometime soon we can all join up and have a build party. You know how we've done a couple of start-from-scratch events? Well, this would be the opposite - bring all that you have to the table and see what we can build with all of the stuff we have gathered over the months!
So far I have eight plots, each 36x24 blocks. As you can see, a couple of the plots have a shallow ravine running through them, which could make building ... interesting.
So, anyone interested in joining in a build party either this Sunday evening, or next week Friday or Saturday evening?

Haven't heard back from anyone besides Mr. A, so maybe we should delay this until Saturday Nov 2nd evening? That'd give Lazy and Tom and Mel and others some time to read it and decide whether they can join in.
Also, I've grown the cleared area, it's now 12 lots of 24x36, in a nice grid pattern. So, time to start thinking of what to build!

Also I was thinking about setting game mode to creative to see what people can build with only space as a restriction

That's 11.00 Sunday morning here, which unfortunately is half an hour after I start work. Though I can probably give myself the day off.

Not up to me ;) so I can't answer. It's up to the originator. assuming you mean you're asking if the party will be creative.. if not, then its probably if the roads were laid out in creative, which I doubt, but don't know for sure, and you'll still not get a definitive answer from me.

I have a lot of resources stockpiled, as does Thorin so we both have unlimited build potential but that may not be true for everyone so I thought it was worth asking

Ah, makes sense. I dunno really. I don't really care either way.
The only time I've gone into creative on the server was to 1. try out a sample elevator (this thing here: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-1574/64/-287/max/0/0), 2. set coordinates on the tele-portals (and I switched back to use bricks and other items from my survival inventory). The roads were all laid out from supplies that I had on hand, and the plots were outlined with slabs made from the trees I felled.
I'd rather stick to survival mode just because then we can brag about everything on this server having been built in survival mode. And I'm happy to share whatever resources I have with whoever needs 'em for this build, up to and including a couple of diamond or emerald blocks (not just the ores, actual blocks). I don't know how many people'll actually be online for this anyway. So far it's just the three of us that have shown interest. LuckyCh4rms and DrCoconut might join us as well.
Separately, I still think we need to set up a portal world and a creative world and create world portals from Usamot to the portal world and back, and from the creative world to the portal world and back.
Just consider how we are gonna move resources from a to b, or backfill resources if we need them.
If this is a timed build where everyone is going to be online at once creative would level the field
I'd prefer survival.
It's not timed, just a see-how-much-we-get-done-in-a-night, and co-operative at that. If someone needs resources or needs them shuttled, I'll happily help out with that. And with the /home and /back commands, it's not that hard (these are available to all players, so why not use them?). I'll build a tele-portal in the next couple of days, too, so that it's easier to get there.
Well, I know what I'm building now
I just have to figure out how large to make some parts of it, dibs on the far back corner (it's gonna be tall-ish)
I have no idea what I'm going to build.
though I could re-do one of my better builds.. the new minecraft blocks and stair mechanics would make it look a lot better these days. I think I last built it in Beta.
Hopefully our themes somewhat mesh :P I might just do my first skyscraper...

Is the server down currently? I can't connect through the MC client and the overviewer isn't working either (apparently due to main.js not being able to load resources).
I think MC login servers are down again, or sporadic. I tried earlier too, on a couple servers

Yeah, you should install a separate profile for 1.6.2 for the server. the new launcher lets you have multiple profiles set up.
I've expanded my build a bit to accommodate the structure that will be on the platform :)
Now the only problem is lighting up the ground under my place as it's a significant shadow zone now lol
