Title: Fleshing out a Character to RP that isn't about Min-Max
Post by: Melbosa on November 13, 2018, 10:23:48 AM
I love doing this sort of thing when I play RPGs.  I love having that little qwerk or non-ordinary trait that makes the character unique and fun.

https://www.highlevelgames.ca/blog/5-ways-to-make-interesting-characters?fbclid=IwAR3uWZwYEUu_9FzfvFV2bmhikUGfsCjeLn-goYM8VO0ICbl5ntJJUXGrhhI is a good example of how you can just flip some ideas around and make a more interesting character without having the best stats or best model for your class/race.

Taking our current campaign, you can probably tell I did this with Sarmek Lavabrew the Cleric, giving him some compulsive disorders and a definite drinking problem.

What things do you look at when making a character's fleshed out points?

I think the Hinderence thing is cool, i will usually try and make my character unique in someway... Something that isn't the norm. I think it is also why almost always i will choose a Female character, which i didn't do for DND, kinda surprised i went male to be honest. lol

I like quirks especially when the DM takes advantage of them, I think we all have stories about character traits that have been exploited for fun during games. For example my character had a short fuse which can lead to some interesting encounters but also serves the characters game mechanics as a berserker
