I'm surprised no one has thought of detecting alignment on various counting houses until they've found the 1st Planar Bank of Evil Commerce and attempted to rob it (for the goodness of all) and redistribute the wealth to the poor (via trickle down effect of the characters buying items and letting the money disseminate into the world economy by stimulating growth in the epic item manufacturing sectors).

Just kidding of course, do what you want but like any other mischievious entity a DM will find a way to balance things for fun's sake.
