Okay so it is a "roadable aircraft", not a true flying car -- but at least the "wings" fold up, kinda...
And how about a Swimming Car? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwStjAS9xTY (convertible too, yeah that makes sense!)

It's no Jetsons car, we were supposed to have those like, 9 years ago already!
Speaking of which, THE FUTURE, as envisioned by US Steel sometime in the swirling mists of the 60s:

I've actually watched quite a few of Alan Whicker's world and of course the spot on Python parody :)

Sadly, that is the series I remember, it was all about gee-whiz technology that was just around the corner. In the 80s they used to have little factoids pop up on the screen during presentation, just like in the other video.

Well that video is sortof similar to it, but it was a spoof of it, not the actual show I think.

LOL, oh yeah, that's the stuff hahahaha!
Flying cars, or at least dependable self-driving "seeing" cars (http://keithcu.com/wordpress/?p=252), are just around the corner; the hardware is certainly there.
Now it's just up to the Software (http://keithcu.com/wordpress/?page_id=407) elitists/protectionists/chicken@%s to turn off HeadInAss mode, and get the ball rolling!

Actually I think the main reason Flying or Self Driving cars have not been able to make much traction is because much like the Segway there is very little practical use for them. I would much rather see a change in mass transit infrastructure or new traffic models applied to city design than spend the billions required to facilitate millions of aeroplanes or specialized lanes.

That's not a flying car! It's a driving airplane :P
Actually it looks like it should be landing at Cloud City on Bespin

Hmm, Star Wars Cloud Car anyone?

however, gotta admit... (http://sitelife.aviationweek.com/ver1.0/Content/images/store/15/7/0f388010-188e-44f6-b7ce-8c97cdbecc74.Full.jpg) vs.
(http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/c/c3/MCQ-cloudcity.jpg) (http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/c/c3/MCQ-cloudcity.jpg)
Doesn't exactly fit a lot of stuff or people... Even just for one couple with no kids, this is pretty useless. As a concept, to take a plane and use it as a car, this is a neat idea though.
James May's Big Ideas - Come Fly with Me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9tElz3yqCI
he visits a wide variety of technology/models, from turbine powered flying saucers to "personal backpack helicopter" gadgets! Fun job he ha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_May%27s_Big_Ideas)s...
sadly, Mr.May didn't have time to talk to "Nuclear engineer Mehran Keshe [who] has designed plasma reactors which by gravitational positioning are able to generate proper magnetic and gravitional fields around the reactor and the spacecraft to counter Earth's Magnetic and gravitational field forces."
http://www.keshespace.com/
http://www.keshefoundation.com/en/applications/transportation
I clicked a handful of links, especially under "New Horizons" and "Applications" ... and either (a) this guy (https://www.google.com/search?q=Mehran+Keshe) and his foundation are brilliant world-changers and the future might be far more futuristic than scientists think, or (b) it's another TimeCube kind of thing. really hoping it's (a), I gotta admit. ...Can't decide either way though; gravity explained = my brain kinda hurts now (http://www.keshefoundation.com/en/new-horizons/gravity/69-gravity-en). (Maybe I need to watch the explanatory videos (http://www.youtube.com/user/keshefoundation)?)
Yeah, I'm thinking "quack" is the right term to apply.
Funny that none of his discoveries are published in any verifiable way...
powered vehicles flying in the air?
how about cars powered BY air?

Old news, very shady businessmen behind it, smelled of VC scam.
Sort of like investing in cold fusion "science" that isn't peer reviewed or buying certain bridges/moons
