What would be a good CPU upgrade for an ASUS Z87-PRO?

I have a dusty old i7-4770k (3.50 GHz, 4 Cores) and I'm wondering what a good upgrade would be? I'm having a hard time finding a compatibility list with more modern CPUs listed.

Does MemEx even have something my board would support anymore?

NVM I just found a benchmarking site and I basically have the best processor for this board already.

Ah well, I still feel like the CPU is a bottleneck for some games

Considering its a 4th Gen and Intel is up at 12th Gen, might be time for a mobo, ram, cpu upgrade my friend.  Your PSU is still probably fine, and I know your Case, HD, and Vid are fine to use.

AMD is a good choice these days. Way more bang for the buck and no longer a compromise on stability as long as you don't cheap out on the board.

But ya if you are on 4th Gen intel ANYTHING semi current will be a HUGE jump in performance.

Mr. Analog

I'll definitely be looking for an upgrade after taxes!

Stock is quickly disappearing... I have friends with gigabyte boards and next to Asus are my top choice. I9 might be over doing for most, those are the enthusiasts CPUs. I7s are just fine for gamers and can be a bit of cost savings.

Don't forget you need the RAM.

Yup! What would go good with this setup?

Well the specs are for DDR 5:

Quote1. Support for DDR5 6200(O.C.) / 6000(O.C.) / 5800(O.C.) / 5600(O.C.) / 5400(O.C.) / 5200(O.C.) / 4800 / 4000 MHz memory modules
2. 4 x DDR DIMM sockets supporting up to 128 GB (32 GB single DIMM capacity) of system memory
3. Dual channel memory architecture
4. Support for ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8 memory modules (operate in non-ECC mode)
5. Support for non-ECC Un-buffered DIMM 1Rx8/2Rx8/1Rx16 memory modules
6. Support for Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) memory modules

Not sure what MemEx has in stock (replying from my phone), but I've have good success with Corsair, Kingston over the years. I've had problems with Gaskill, Crucial myself.

I would also recommend 32gb min for a gaming rig this days for future proofing. Personally I went 64gb

Ya these days it is more like what is in stock than what is the best X.. I would agree on 32gb of RAM for AAA titles. GPUs are a total rip off right now if you can even find one.

It seems like this is my best option for 64 GB, kinda pricey but given I upgrade once every ten years it seems... 🤔

I helped him install his 30xx series card last year so I think he is good for GPU

I'll be envious of your DDR5 experience... Supposed to be a good increase over DDR4
