Ugg so I go to escape in game for a while and get the creative juices flowing creating something, only to spend hours working around issues or all out getting pissed off at something...

I have started to wonder if Minecraft has a good balance around this? My current pain is around the damn portals!

Just be glad you didn't get into it a year ago. Man the mine carts were significantly worse, as were a bunch of other issues. It's rather decent now if you ask me. Could be better, but meh.

Well, its sort of like my minecart problem last night, it wasn't what I planned to do so I had a choice to make: fix it or leave it. I opted for fixing and spent about 30 minutes going around the loop trying to sort out what happened (combination of drippy minecarts and a dispenser jam). This pushed back the real build I wanted to do by a bit (which was to start a ranch, which I did, later).

But I know how you feel, I've created a couple designs for a compact hidden doorway but it has flaws I don't see with other examples that don't have published designs, this sucks big time because I know it can be done, I just don't know how to do it. I'll figure it out eventually, it's just one of those things that keeps your brain cooking until you solve it.

Honestly I think the real fun part of Minecraft is going that extra mile with the game, what also makes stuff like programming interesting; problem solving.

I'm not sure if it's causing me stress, it is forcing me to use my brain more than usual (generally I play twich games that rely on reflexes more than thinking I guess). My other hobby is art which is similar in that often I have to deconstruct something in my brain before actually laying it down on paper or tablet. There are just some nights where I'd rather just sit and watch baseball than try to figure out how to take a limited design character and put them in a pose some client wants...

Just had a whoa moment actually, I realized that I like doodling in both art and minecraft. Like for example, here's a doodle: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-98/64/-536/max/0/0

It serves no function and I didn't plan it, I just had a bunch of cobble and stone bricks, torches and time to blow off. It took way less time than this: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/93/64/-276/max/0/0

Which became a mini-obsession of getting redstone to do what I wanted in a tight space.

Goodness gracious, you have a lot of cobble and you love to build :)

As for the original point, I find Minecraft is stress release, but at the same time it's a stressor because it eats up time.  So far what I've liked the most is the multiplayer cave crawls / digs / builds, seeing all the neat things other people come up with, and last but not least the satisfied feeling when you finally complete what you were trying to do.  That's why I like to post when I've succeeded at something.

The fact that things just don't work as expected is pretty frustrating sometimes, though, I totally get that.  Just see my attempted horizontal station thread :)
Prayin' for a 20!

Augh, so simple! I was designing backwards apparently lol
