Starting to go through my steam games and thinking about gaming more in general I have to wonder if there are any good shared sandbox games we might enjoy playing together.

Is there anything like minecraft in regard to the following?:
- Shared sandbox / persistent world
- Can work cooperatively or independently
- Can compete or cooperate
- No monthly cost / can self host a dedicated server?

Unlike Minecraft:
- cross platform across mobile AND PC (I don't count Bedrock yet as dedicated server is still alpha at best)

What it is not:
- Doesn't have to be anything like minecraft / IE not a minecraft clone
- Could be 2d anything.

Was poking around the steam store and my library, some things like factorio sort of fit but it isn't built to be persistent for too long as it does have an end state.

Ark, Terraria, Atlas, Conan, Starbound, Stardew Valley, Empyrion are some ideas

Empyrion looks interesting.

While I suspect that some minecraft interest will increase when 1.16 is out. I am curious if anyone is interested in a shared server to be setup for any of the above or similar games.

Depending on how the dedicated server is I probably have capacity to at least host another server or two , our concurrent use is very low.

I've been enjoying factorio lately.

Depends on how far you want to take it. Some seasoned pros create "mega bases" that take hundreds of hours.
