Re-enactment...

while the special effects are interesting, the most fascinating aspect of the above video is the survivors' testimonies, especially in the final 2 minutes -- 2 girls were 250 meters from the blast, inside an earthquake-proofed bank. I can't imagine...

Good timing, today is the 53rd anniversary of the Russell-Einstein Manifesto.

QuoteThe Russell-Einstein Manifesto was issued in London on July 9, 1955 by Bertrand Russell in the midst of the Cold War. It highlighted the dangers posed by nuclear weapons and called for world leaders to seek peaceful resolutions to international conflict. The signatories included eleven pre-eminent intellectuals and scientists, most notably, Albert Einstein, days before his death on April 18, 1955. A few days after the release, philanthropist Cyrus Eaton offered to sponsor a conference - called for in the manifesto - in Pugwash, Nova Scotia, Eaton's birthplace. This conference was to be the first of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, held in July 1957.

Einstein died shortly after the Manifesto was signed.

And wow, I didn't realize the date. I never actually remember how I find these little trails on Youtube or Wikipedia, i.e. I didn't start my day thinking "hey I wonder how many good clips of nuclear detonations and stuff I can find on Youtube during lunchtime?" ;)

"How big is a 20 kiloton nuclear blast?"

...on my mind right now, due to listening to this... Common fearmongering, perhaps, and hopefully will never be more than that...
