Okay so it is a "roadable aircraft", not a true flying car -- but at least the "wings" fold up, kinda...

And how about a Swimming Car? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwStjAS9xTY (convertible too, yeah that makes sense!)

It's no Jetsons car, we were supposed to have those like, 9 years ago already!

Speaking of which, THE FUTURE, as envisioned by US Steel sometime in the swirling mists of the 60s:

Sadly, that is the series I remember, it was all about gee-whiz technology that was just around the corner. In the 80s they used to have little factoids pop up on the screen during presentation, just like in the other video.

Well that video is sortof similar to it, but it was a spoof of it, not the actual show I think.

Flying cars, or at least dependable self-driving "seeing" cars, are just around the corner; the hardware is certainly there.

Now it's just up to the Software elitists/protectionists/chicken@%&#s to turn off HeadInAss mode, and get the ball rolling!

Actually I think the main reason Flying or Self Driving cars have not been able to make much traction is because much like the Segway there is very little practical use for them. I would much rather see a change in mass transit infrastructure or new traffic models applied to city design than spend the billions required to facilitate millions of aeroplanes or specialized lanes.

one comment: "I knew if we were going to get a flying car, Burt Rutan would be the one to give it to us."
