 These old comics hail from the late 20s and seem to have perfected the art of the non sequitur.

It's like viewing the silent movies of that era. Before the "talkies".

Cuz these comics don't have words. So they're like silent movies.

Only they're not movies. They're comics.

Without words.

Was humour a different phenomenon back then too?  <_<
