Ya, my dad is comming to town on the weekend and staying with us a few days.. I need to get a bunch of stuff done on and I suck at most card games anyway..

Maybe next time.

I needs a ride, however I must do a few things before I come over, seems I lost my cigar clipper at the Airport last year, as of course I am a deadly armed terrorist with a cigar clipper that and a bottle of rum and some Pepsi.

Otherwise, prepare yourselves for a great game o' cards me old pally-wallies.

Ranking of Hands (in case you don't know already):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_hand#Ranking_of_hands

I sent the following to one of youz guyz, might be helpful to others:

I'd highly recommend Wikipedia the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_hand

The rules for "Texas Hold'em" are actually quite simple (you've maybe seen a hand or two on TV)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_hold_%27em#Rules

It's a good idea to be a bit familiar with some of the good/medium/bad hands in Texas Hold'em...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_hold_%27em_hands

And it's more fun when chatter includes the slang, so for fun pick up on a few of these perhaps...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_slang_names_for_poker_hands#Texas_Hold_.27Em_Slang

If you want to fill your brain with some "number crunching" peruse this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poker_probability_%28Texas_hold_%27em%29#The_flop

Other than that, relax and have FUN with the gang o' friends... It's all about the socializing, less about "winning". :)

[/quote]

...as a reminder, $20.00 buy-in, and sounds like there's 4 of us "confirmed" and maybe 5 or more if Melbosa or others are joining us ???

How many chips do we get for $20? And when we're tapped can we buy more for another $20?

And yes, Melbosa, you comin' buddy? I got yer 75 smackers here.

Melbosa

I should be able to make it... I am on call between 4:30 and 10:00 tonight, but as long as nothing goes wrong I should be fine.

I've got enough chips I think where we can each start with "$100,000", and the game will begin with $100/$200 blinds and "double" every "round" (i.e. when the dealer repeats).

The chip colours are white blue red and black -- I'm thinking 100, 500, 1000, and 10000 should do just fine.

And yes, if you do a poorly-judged "ALL-IN!" and end up penniless early in the game I'm sure everyone would be okay with you "buying in" once again (thus starting with $100,000) but seriously wait at least until we're at $500/1000 blinds okay ;)

One more useful page I found is the Rank of Hands Wiki Entry.

Ooo... pretty colored chart :)

FYI: probable distribution of chips (to total $100K each to start)

[ignore, I was wrong how many chips I had...]
20 x 100= 2000 whites

12 x 500= 6000 blues

22 x1000=22000 reds

7 x10000=70000 blacks
[/ignore, I was wrong how many chips I had.]

[reminder to self for next time]
oops, not quite... I had only 100 total of each colour, so ended up using 6 stacks each of...

> 15 x white100= 1,500

> 15 x blue500 = 7,500

> 11 x red1000 =11,000

> 8x black10000=80,000

[/reminder to self for next time]

Agenda for tonight:
We should order the pizza as soon as all have arrived (hopefully before 7:00) and start playing by 8:00 -- giving Ustauk and my brother especially a bit of extra time to familiarize with the rules re. dealing, betting, etc.

While waiting for pizza, those of us who don't need to "read up on the rules" or whatever can maybe watch an episode or two of Family Guy or American Dad.

How's that all sound folks?
