So, PS4 and XBone release dates are now tangible, the question is; what are the "gotta have it" games.
I think I'll treat this generation much like the last, wait out the first year or so and see what games go where. I remember getting my 360 back in April '08 for GTAIV... man has it been that long already?
I got my 360 opening day... with Halo and FullAuto. Man its been sooo long!!!!!!!!!!!!
360 launch was in late '05 wasn't it? That is a long time now heh!
You're right, it's the games that drive the sale of the hardware. Is there a new HALO coming out for XBone? That might cause a purchase in my household, although a certain someone is saving for a car so spending all that certain someone's money on a new game console is probably a bad idea.
Here's a mostly-current list:

The only one on my radar currently is WATCH_DOGS which I will probably get for the Wii-U

So, PS4 and XBone release dates are now tangible
and side-by-side comparable, apparently:

Neither support media streaming
Not unsurprising but it really illustrates the lack of understanding of how consumers use their products

The Forbs link clearly states that the XBOX one support DLNA streaming and MP3 playback.
QuoteAdd in MP3 support, DLNA streaming and audio CDs, and Xbox One can handily serve as an entertainment hub for the whole living room

Turns out that is news to me, and most people -> http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/129288-Microsoft-Working-to-Make-Xbox-One-DLNA-Compatible-Will-Play-CDs
I guess in the wake of the news about the PS4, MS decided to add support.

Spoiler
disclaimer: Video is from 2007.
But really, has all that much changed when it comes to the art of hilarious fanboy baiting?
But OMG he was RIGHT about Fantasy World Dizzy, looks like a perfect combo of adventure/puzzle and side-scrolling platformer! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oas5G9po2q0
At this point all I know is that there are rumors that several next gen launch titles are still going to be frame locked at 30 fps
That said, I think Nov 22nd is the same day WATCH_DOGS comes out, which is certainly on my list of games

...just play Dizzy!
Or if you can't find an emulator port, how about one of the "parody" games it inspired?
http://www.giddy3.co.uk/
(too bad Dizzy Returns Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theolivertwins/dizzy-returns) was a bust)
To be fair I should probably finish GTAV and work my way through Saints Row DLC :)
Now Sony states they will add DLNA and media support after launch.
http://feedly.com/k/HWe9Jh
So both consoles will be incomplete on launch.
Xbox with no Blueray 3D
Playstation without DLNA media streaming
But later they will not have them.
At least they are fixing their wrongs... and I don't own a 3D TV so the lateness of the BluRay 3D on the XBox One is not really going to affect me. DLNA would have though!!!

I uh, don't get that last sentence. It confuses me.
What can be given via software update can be taken away?

^ DLNA sounds like a good idea, convenience-wise ... but it's also giving a lot of "power" to faceless megacorps (imo).
DLNA is actually quite horrible when you get right down to it, the problem is other than pre-loading client devices hooked up to your tv with a vast array of media decoders to make things easy you don't have a lot of options.
When I first got my XBox 360 you could navigate network shares, you could listen to mp3s or watch videos or look at pictures without a media server acting as an in-between (this wasn't perfect, because of the vast array of audio / video codecs likely to be in a library but most things worked out of the box), then a dashboard update came down the pipe that removed all that and forced you to set up a media server and pre-process content through it to get it on your XBox.
So I stopped using my XBox as a media player and switched to my DVD player which for the most part can play videos right off the network share or connect to my VUZE server
The funny thing is that once I stopped using my XBox to stream video I started to play fewer games on it because it just wasn't on as much

Who need choices when you've got convenience!
(who needs liberty when you've got security!)
I'm surprised I haven't heard much about the day one patch that is required to play games
hee hah hoo
Speaking of Xboxes, when do I get mine? :o
