Who else is interested in seeing "V For Vendetta" when it comes out middle of this month? I figure it's a good idea to plan well in advance, seeing as how difficult it is historically for more than 3 of us to get together ;)
And for anyone not aware of the film, the IMDB page for it has tons of forums threads (with some spoilers, sadly) and also the official page will give you an idea what it's all about.
In a nutshell: "Vendetta" is a well-known graphic novel in the 1980s/1990s illustrated by David Lloyd and written by Lloyd and Alan Moore. The Wachowski Brothers (aka Matrix dudes) wanted to make "Vendetta" even before they made the Matrix (see IMDB trivia page), but apparently didn't have the clout/experience/funding to make it happen. Some of the most memorable pro-individualistic-freedom messages and even some exact dialog in the first Matrix movie (let's just ignore #2 and #3) were lifted right out of "Vendetta", including what Morpheus says about "you've always been in a prison, you were born into slavery..." There's lots of action of course, but also hopefully the profound dialogue and monogues are retained from the written work. Overall it should be a fun ride, even if it isn't as "faithful to the source material" as some of us would like.
Oh, and it should be dark, ala Batman Begins, or so I hope (based on the trailers I've seen).
That's all I'm going to say, before some of you start calling me Harry Knowles or maybe a "fanboy" or something :)

I wouldn't mind seeing it on the 17th as I haven't been to a movie since Batman Begins...
I'd be up for that. I have three Platinum Plus tickets we can use, and I can get more if need be.
Those don't work downtown, do they.
Quote from: "Mr. Analog"Those don't work downtown, do they.
Now that Famous Players has merged with Cineplex Odeon, they work for almost all theatres, except Imax and the second run theatres, where they'd be more expensive then the tickets :)
The theater downtown is an Empire Cinema and they don't take those anymore..

Blast, you're right. I phoned them, and my tickets will only work at North Edmonton Cinemas, South Edmonton Common, Silver City, and Galaxy in Sherwood Park. Darren lives on the south side, so I'd be willing to provide transport to Mr. Analog to and from South Edmonton Common if necessary.
I'd enjoy seeing a flic. Its a little far away now to say if I'll be making it..
I don't think this will be that good, so gonna say rental...
Early reviews, barring a few comic purists, have been fairly raving.
I wanna see it opening week to piss off Alan "I'm never happy with any adaptation of 'my' work" Moore ;)
I liked his work on Promethea, an interesting comic for sure.
The man is definitely creative, and a success to boot. But I've read some of his silly public comments the past 12 months, before Vendetta was even finished production; he seems s curmudgeonesque when it comes to his art being translated into a different form -- even before the translation is completed. :|
And hey, Alan, I actually enjoyed "LOXG" :)
More about Moore: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Moore#Film
Yeah, he's "wacky" and both DC and Marvel "wuv him"... ;)
If we see it on the 17th, we'll have to catch an earlier show, as that's St. Patrick's Day.
Why, R U planning on throwing back a few dozen green beverages and falling asleep all unbalanced-like?
-I'd prefer 6:30ish show anyway, to be honest...
Yes...
Gonna be at the Stonehouse for green beer if anyone would like to swing by after the movie!!

Save me a spot :)
re. the movie: I am indeed able to make it Friday night, if anyone else is that's great 6:00-6:30 show downtown, green beer afterwards? Anyone?
My plans changed for Saturday AM so I probably won't be downtown much past 5...
I'll come to the movie, and then we can grab some eats and wander over to the Stonehouse, where we can meet Zapata and Surfer, and have many mugs of green beer. If you don't want to have to take a taxi home, Darren, you can crash on my couch or my my fold out foamy chair.
Movie starts at 6:50. I'll mosey over to Edmonton City Centre and wait by the Elephant and Castle. Mr. Analog, even if you can't see the movie, you're welcome to have a couple of beers with Darren and I. The movie should let out about 9:00, at which time I, and possibly Darren, should he choose too, will head to the Stonehouse to meet Zapata and Surfer for some green beer :)
Showtimes for V For Vendetta (http://edmovieguide.com/cgi/movie-find.cgi?movie=V+For+Vendetta) <-- for anyone not seeing the 6:50 show tonight with us. GO OPENING WEEKEND! Tell Hollywood what you like in your movies! :)
I like robots and sexy women, AND sexy robot-women. And leprechauns and swords and heavy metal. So they should make more movies like that for me...

Darren has requested we meet in the food court of Edmonton City Centre West, so if anybody else wants to watch the movie with us, meet us there between 5:30 and 6:00 or so.
Yeah, I wanna have some low-priced munchies before the Show.
Also wanna check out the downtown location of $Dollarama$ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search/%24Dialing_for_Dollar%24)<-- SCTV reference for anyone who is (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_chicken) L33T ;)
Yeah, put the phone on your head Cronkite... now... take off your shirt.
that sound you hear is a vice... ;)
make that stupid moustache of yours pop right off.
V for Vendetta - Beautiful, intelligent, bold, graphic poetry.
(17Mar2006)
This film's excellent trailers could not have done it justice. The brilliant graphic novel has been skillfully adapted into an explosive Hollywood blockbuster, amazingly without diluting its plentiful tyranny-condemning dialogue.
More quotable than Napoleon Dynamite, and more courageously in-your-face truth-telling than The Matrix. "Writers lie in order to tell the truth; governments lie to cover it up" etc.
Well done, Natalie, Hugo, James, and of course Andy and Larry! You managed to stay faithful to the source, while taking full advantage of the unique strengths of the big screen. The original V's spirit is honoured by your inspiring work!
P.S. "St. Mary's" = 911WTC/GroundZero. Keep that in mind as you experience this compelling, challenging, uplifting, and sometimes bloody modern work of art.

V: [introducing/explaining himself after first meeting Evey] This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, it is vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified.
However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-a-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me "V".
Evey: Are you, like, a crazy person?
Anyone not see this yet? I plan on going sometime this week (maybe Wednesday).
I haven't, wouldn't mind checking it out.
I would enjoy watching it again -- seriously.
The opening "Introductory Speech" (I quoted above) makes a whole lotta sense now that I've seen the film once (and in a way you guys have that to chew on pre-viewing ;) )
Anytime this week after work is good for me, it would be nice to see you hosers too, I think it was like last year I last saw ya (just about) :P
Come out to Gateway with us tomorrow then! :)

What time? I gotta be home right after work for a quick kids-clothes-pickup, other than that I could meet you guys there later. :)
Sure, I'm sure most of us won't be there until 6ish.

I can swing by your place on my way down. I probably will get to your place some time between 5:40 and 6:00. Is that okay?
Dionne will be there right at 6:00; the 304 bus leaves Southgate at 6:30 so I will do everything in my power to be on that bus and see you guys at Gateway at 6:40ish.
Thanks for the ride offer though. :)
Rockin'
Hey guys FYI check the "Get Together" thread in the Edmonton local forum.
Anyone in Edmonchuk want to see this (either 'again' like me or 'first time' like some of you busy people)
If so, post here (rather than the old 'get together' thread) so it's less confusing i.e. related to the movie as the specific activity.
...not sure who is still waiting to see, or see a second time...
PS: Tues. and Thurs. nite this week = me already busy.
I'll probably see it this weekend coming up...
