If getting a regular ride is going to be a problem for me, I may have to duck out...

Well I have two problems mostly:

1. Transport
2. Weeknights

I just can't stay up past midnight / one AM on a weeknight I get up at 5:30 AM these days. I also have to rely on someone else for rides which means I'm on their schedule.

I like playing poker but for it to be a regular thing for me I'd have to have a dependable ride and a guarantee that weeknight games won't run too late.

I realize weekends are not possible for you Darren, it's a bit of a sticky wicket!

Ridiculous 'resurrection' warning. ;D  <-- hey! where did my old "Thread Resurrection Specialist" title go? Bring it back, plz...

Just putting this out there: on Sunday nights I will likely be available starting at like 8pm* (so presumably a 2.5-3hour game) if anyone is interested in hosting -- I would be willing to act as "chauffeur" to Mr. Analog and others, and if necessary I have a great set of chips and a pokertable covering thing (it folds out, is solid cardboard+felt with cup and chip holders, I'm sure many of you remember.

So if you folks are interested at all let me know (based on the time of year, I am guessing January would be the earliest, but it doesn't hurt to start planning early).

*If you're curious, my kids are now living out of town so on Sunday nights I am usually going to be driving them back out, and will be returning into town coming from the west end (i.e. the Yellowhead) around 7-7:30pm usually, so that's why I said 8pm -- and because of where I would be the location of the home game would be a non-issue.

Hopefully "Handsome Devil" will not be the only one to respond ;)

Merry XMas from the RW Forums.  Gifts for everyone!

Mr. Analog

I'd love to play some Poker, but I have the same challenges. It has to be like a Friday/Saturday thing :(

If we lived closer or if it was easier to commute I wouldn't have as much trouble with this...

Also, regarding the new titles I'm wondering what mine means. I had to check my pants to make sure my bird wasn't free haha... oy

Maybe Melbosa should start a new thread dedicated to us speculating and theorizing re. the meanings of our new titles, then on the morning of December 25th we can gather around while he tells us the story of The Real Meaning Of ChristmasThe Titles.

Oh, and Free Bird is incredibly long, whereas many of the 87million posts by Mr. Analog are ... not so much. So maybe it's ironic?

Hah! I like that, like some kind of whacked out Christmas special.

Tom

<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

Darren Dirt

Back to the topic ;) there's a bit of a change in my kids travel situation, so I might be free on the occasional Friday night but the Sunday night is definitely not a possibility.

So after the busy Christmas season is nearing its end, maybe we can throw some ideas out there -- maybe have a once-a-month at a specific home starting at 7pm until [a late but not ungodly hour] , or it could rotate... again I am okay with driving Tom and the Woodfords... hopefully it would be more than just us 4 on occasion. And as the earlier postings said, this is an affordable evening of fun and socializing and insulting each other... so like a $20 buyin is likely to be the expectation, with perhaps $5 added to that from each of us for pizza or Chinese or whatever.

Until late December, my friends...

I could be down with this. I've been thinking it would be nice to get a regular game going, specifically a mixed game with a few types of poker. Maybe start off with hold'em and add games as time goes on. I've recently discovered the mixed game action (specifically the 8 game mixed game) on Poker Stars. Great stuff.

Mr. Analog

We should pick a date to get together for cards soon eh :D

Bixby

After taking a year off from hosting a league, I am starting my $25 buy in Texas Hold'em league up in January. You're all welcome...
...Games are in Regina though. :)

*cough*RAZZ!*cough* <-- seriously. Simple rules, no end of fun/frustration (especially if some players are drinking ;) )

Would be Limit Holdem for starters, unlikely NL would be as fun since too easy to go broke... if we have regular players and regular days then I am sure the more-action games of Omaha or Stud would be a nice change (but not if everyone isn't on-board, i.e. it would take away the Fun).

Merry Xmas, Happy New Year, etc. everyone... I'm away for a few days...

Hell yeah. Razz is a great game to introduce 7 card stud variations. No hand rankings to remember, just variations of the same hand.

Limit poker is where it's at for a home game. No real risk of ruin. Very mathy, which appeals to us geeky types.

Cash game poker also has the benefit of allowing players to take off when they like, buy back in if they bust, etc... Way more conducive to a social evening.

Darren Dirt

New year, warmer weather.

Who's interested at all? (i.e. won't figure out the dates/times yet, just want a list of names who might become 'regulars')

Oh, and in March or so I will be moving prolly north of the river. So more available for socializing with other adults ;)

How far north?

For me the trouble is timing and transport...
