Title: Windows 10 Audio Keeps Dying
Post by: Mr. Analog on May 31, 2018, 08:58:25 PM
I run my audio through my monitor DisplayPort and it just randomly stops. I tried reinstalling my drivers and I thought it was working for a while but it just keeps cutting out. This is getting annoying.

I seem to remember reading about Windows 10 audio problems after the latest patch but it didn't hit me until recently (as in today)

Anybody know more about this?

Haven?t heard of this problem.  I run my audio mostly though a set of headphones driven over a dedicated USB interface.

I don?t use my monitors built in speakers or even my external speakers and subwoofer anymore.

Since HDMI audio will go though the video card I would run what ever driver removal tools are available for your platform, reboot and try the latest.

Sometimes it is important to purge the older drivers.

Yeah that was my first thought, as its running thru the DisplayPort line I figured I'd re-install my nVidia drivers I thought it was working for a while and then it cut out again.

This is gonna sound weird but - I think it has something to do with Firefox and YouTube, when I had those both open it would crap out if I paused or moved the video to another window. I've been drawing for the last hour or so with VLC running and no problems to speak of.

I'm baffled, so is Windows Troubleshooter :/

Isn't there a setting in Windows 8/10 that lets you choose which monitor is your audio output? Try switching to the other, then switching back... I have headphones plugged into my laptop's 2nd monitor, and sometimes when I unplug various combos it "loses" that setting, IIRC.

Yes - doesn't work. Believe me the mixer is the first thing I touched.

I didn't seem to have as many problems after reinstalling the driver but like I say I think its something to do with YouTube. The problem only manifested when I had YouTube open in Firefox, not sure if this is a false lead yet or what

Well, it's not YouTube. It seems to be if I have an audio stream going (from any source) and then pause it??

I'm really confused. I'm gonna find an audio cable and try patching the monitor thru that to see if its nVidia or something else

Man, good job figuring it out. It's almost like you figure out weird bugs for a living.

It had to be something - the funny thing is sometimes if I get an audio stream going like music or just jamming on the volume button making it *ding* seems to correct it, but it doesn't last long. I may attempt re-installing Discord... again.
