Keiji Inafune, Mega Man co-creator and long time veteran of CAPCOM has successfully funded through kickstarter a new 2D platformer in the vein of Mega Man called Mighty No. 9

The kickstarter hit its goal very quickly and is rapidly approaching $1.5 million

I know I am very excited about this title because it's something that a lot of long time Mega Man fans have wanted from CAPCOM for years AND Keiji Inafune has wanted direct fan involvement in development for a long time as well, so for once we have something we want plus the person we want making it PLUS we get to be involved. It has been very exciting to see this develop over the last few days:

I think this might actually be the first Kickstarter I seriously consider backing.

Last week a design came out for one of the villains and I really liked the design so I did a quick pic, but it turned out nice so I'm glad it was featured.

They featured two of your pictures!

That's the other one.
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

There was an error in the newsletter and I was mis-credited, the real artist can be found here -> http://fav.me/d6osa64

Likely what happened was I reblogged this without the original artists credit on tumblr and somehow I was incorrectly associated.

I hope they can sort out the credits correctly, this gave me a lot of stress this morning!

OOh, its also on the website as well. Its a pretty good picture though, so its not a shame to be credited for it ;)

Though to be honest, I think you'd have cleaner lines.

I hope they fix it soon too, the artist is super nice!

*wheeeeze* thank you

If I get to the point where bodyguards have to carry me up the great wall of China you'll know I've gone too far.

Some kickstarters are HUUUUUUGE, impossibly huge

I'm just happy that the base goals were met and the team is getting the chance to bring something amazing together with fans!

Because I am a backer at a certain level I get a lot of goodies with this; like a copy of the game when it comes out, art books, etc. A lot of kickstarters don't even get you a digital download

Tonight I may do some more artwork to celebrate the goal getting met, but I know I want to do something more finished, maybe all the Mighty No.s together!

Side note (but related I guess)

The Shantae kickstarter finished today as another rousing success story. Their goal was 400k they got over double that in the end (meaning lots of stretch goals!)

Lots of great platformers gonna be coming out in the next year or so!
