Over at Spike they got their nominations up for their upcoming Video Game Awards.  Of the most interesting things I saw was that all 4 of their games nominated for "Game of the Year" are Xbox 360 games (Orange Box is also on PC).

I really hope 2K Boston gets the nod for Studio of the year.  A smallish team going out a limb should get noticed.

I'd love to see Halo 3's saved film getting breakthrough technology (Not so much a technology but a feature that will be copied by every game moving forward) but I forsee Rock Band taking that award.

Not super surprising given the demographic they seem to gear for; adult males aged 18-35 who enjoy watching Star Trek in a squished aspect ratio.

;) j/k

Interesting to see their pick list though.

Interesting list. Thanks for posting the summary! There have been some really great releases this year. No matter what's selected as best, gamers win out with a formidable stable of games to choose from.

Come to think of it, it's been an expensive year for those who can afford it.

It's interesting to see The Orange Box package under the Best Shooter category. It could be because l'Orange is an odd duck containing multiple shooters, one of which is purportedly short (Half-Life 2: Episode 2 I'm looking at you, mister).

Actually Episode 1 is quite a bit shorter than Episode 2.

Very interesting. I only just started on Half Life 2 so I haven't gotten to playing the episodes yet. I've seen complaints about the episodic nature of the games being fine and the burst of fresh content just leaves people wanting more right away.

It'll be interesting to come back to this thread when I've finished both episodes and consider my expectations vs. experiences. Right now I'm expecting Episode 2 to be about 8-10 hours of gameplay.

Lazybones

I started on Episode 1, but have been distracted by portal a and Sam n Max season 1 which I am on the second last episode of.
