Title: Stolen Goods
Post by: Thorin on August 30, 2012, 11:21:43 PM
Signed in today to find a couple of nice little door-sized holes in the side of my hotel.  So I checked on my stores - I'm missing 8 full stacks and 1 partial stack (I think 38) of diamonds, and 1 full stack of iron ingots (thanks to my OCD organizing I can tell exactly what's missing).  They were nice enough to drop some of their existing gear into my Minerals chest (three books, some torches, some string, some purple wool).

Tom, as admin are you able to check other people's inventory when they're not online?  I'd be interested to know who's running around with 8+ stacks of diamonds.

Also, why wouldn't one just use the doors?  They're not protected, anyone can walk through them, why dig holes in the walls?  Now I gotta go fix it <grumble grumble>

Also also, I'd like one of the ops to spawn me back in those stacks of diamond and that stack of iron.  It took me way too long to accumulate all that.

Also also also, YellowBear_ and BMan_C might be missing diamonds as well, I checked their shared house and they don't seem to have any in their chests (but they could be carrying them around, so I'll ask them first).

I suggest everyone check their chests for missing valuables.

Okay, turns out I have Op status so I can create my own diamonds / iron / saddle / torches (yes, they stole a saddle and torches).  Thanks Lenny for coming and helping.  Now I just wanna know who did it.

I'll see what I can do about figuring out who has your ill gotten booty. Might happen tomorrow if things go well, if not, it'll be on the weekend.

The plot thickens:

-Lots of broken windows and walls
-A missing enchanting table near spawn
-Doors left open all over
-A waterfall leaking out of the bio dome tower

And most interesting of all it appears as though someone met an untimely end at Pier 2 at the Edge City docks (see picture).

Their stuff was still on the floor.

I repaired a few things here and there but everyone should log in and take stock. I repaired some stuff already but some things (like Tom's house) were damaged more extensively (I think).

The log shows one unknown person (Kursed89) trying to join last night after you left, but it doesn't seem they were successful.

Other than that, I know everyone who was on last night, and stuff de-spawns after 5 minutes.

Ha ha, how do you die in there?  No stacks of diamond in the dropped loot, though.

But anyway, yeah, someone came through the last few days and clearly decided to fart around with other people's builds.

Also, someone built a tower of trees: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-88/64/-23/max/0/0

Tom, that might've been from before last night...  Did Kursed89 log in earlier in the week as well?

I've been looking, and the damage to my place goes back quite a ways. The water off the biodome tower thing goes back to the 25th.

I'll look at more places if people can get me coords of specific things to compare.

The missing enchanting table near my house at spawn. I'm pretty sure that was most recently?

Ok, I guess let me know if we want to keep the world as is or if we want to roll back.

I've got the urge to build stuff again

Maybe we should keep it and just plan a cleanup night where we all get on and fix things.

Where exactly was the enchanting table?

There's a small brick building just south of the sign at spawn, I've replaced the crafting table already on the server.

I also went around and fixed some trees, holes and busted windows but there's a lot of random damage.

Yeah, Lucky / Stewie found a few things missing, but not too much.  But they made random entrances and exits and he shook his head about why they made their own door three blocks over from the door to his house.

I spent some time doing basic fixes today.

- went through my railway and fixed missing fences and dirt blocks (also changed up the signage)
- went through my giant wheat farm and replanted it: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-15/64/592/max/0/0
- went through Lucky's skyscraper and replaced windows and stone bricks, also replanted wheat for him
- fixed the hole in Lucky's cathedral
- fixed the holes in Lucky's house and storehouse
- fixed the waterfall in the moose; ladders on two of the legs are completely gone
- fixed the waterfall in the raised biodome; clearly the griefer just wanted a quick way down
- fixed holes in "Roy's Residence"; I think this is Spectre's place?
- fixed some more holes in buildings near spawn
- rode the subway and replaced missing rails and roof blocks to stop waterfalls; beach station is messed up - the empty cart detector doesn't work so I kept ending up in the cart in the pez dispenser, and there's a wall/door missing at this entrance here: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/209/64/309/max/0/0
- fixed the hole in Tom's cabin here: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/559/64/262/max/0/0
- planted some trees on SkyCity (nothing's broken up there, but I planted some more wheat, too)
- had a look at the NPC village Bag0Bones made; it's pretty destroyed, and looks like it was TNTed
- had a look at the NPC prison / iron grinder; things have been messed up a bit, and there's a couple obvious noob towers from when the griefer fell in the trap
- not sure if this pathway/staircase was made by the griefer or Bag0Bones: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/286/64/449/max/0/0

I also took a look at where aethun's cottage used to be: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/137/64/194/max/0/0.  Up close, you can clearly see it was TNTed, and the griefer left a sign (see attached).

There's still more things to fix, but the most important is probably the Beach Station pez dispenser and the Unethical Iron village and trap.  After that'll be individual players' buildings.

Yeah, and if it's who I think it was, then it's a couple of typical 13-14 year olds being little @%&#s.

The things I fixed only took a couple of hours and made things work again (other than the Beach Station automatic minecart dispenser and empty minecart sensor).

I'm thinking of rebuilding that station, maybe using some tripwires or something
Title: Re: Stolen Goods

Looks like YellowBear_ and BMan_C are missing a stack of diamonds, so I'm gifting them that.

Rebuilding that station is a good idea.  If you come up with a standard design, then that could be copied for all the stations (although the other ones work, so we can leave 'em as is).

Tripwires are fun, hey?

Good man :)

Yeah tripwires ARE fun, in fact I set up a little tripwire trap yesterday, so be careful in the LOB Industries building: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/506/64/-64/max/0/0

Also started rebuilding my dockyard: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/470/64/-186/max/0/0

So far I have one crane, not sure if I'm going to build more, I may extend the docks a bit further East as well.

I have to rebuild the ship which is going to take a while I think, I also have to build a warehouse district.

Be very careful around this place during rainstorms for some reason this area is a lightning magnet.

I roamed from Frontier Hotel to Spawn City to Edge City all the way to WMNR Radio, looking for cows.  I found one roaming loose, and a few more up on The Moose.  However, I couldn't figure out how to get them down without killing them.  At one point I found another indication of the griefer (I think) - see attached screenshots.  After more than two hours of roaming, I finally went back to Frontier Hotel and gifted myself some cow spawn eggs.  Two for my barn (where there used to be eight cows), two for YellowBear's barn (where there used to be six cows), and one for Derek's underground menagerie (where there was still one cow).

I had released a bunch of animals, including over a dozen cows, into the wild a while ago.  There's lots of pigs, sheep, and chickens, but no cows.  My guess is the griefer killed them to eat them, since steak gives so much hunger back.  That's why I felt it was okay to /give some cow spawn eggs; I was pretty sure these cows hadn't all been absconded by a non-griefing player.

Anyway, I hope to reintroduce cows to the wild again, once I have eight or ten.

Oh, I also found several spots in DerekVPierce's railway that appear to have been griefed (water spilling over the underground tracks, I'm sure he didn't do that himself), as well as places in Spawn City (the glass fire spire, for one).

Oh two, I also changed some signs to include [-] at the bottom, both in the Overworld and the Nether, so they show up on the Overviewer.

I think, but not sure, that friendlies take a long while to repopulate.

Also, every time this thread pops back up I think it's happened again...

Animal spwning is painfully slow AND rare in the current Minecraft, sort of like the biome spawning seems to favor water biome

I thought wolves only killed sheep?  Regardless, the only two wolves I saw in more than two hours of wandering were tamed and sitting in Melbosa's fire spire (http://mc.tomasu.org/#/159/64/-133/max/0/0).  And there were lots of sheep and pigs and chickens.  Not only that, but all the cows in my barn plus all the cows in YellowBear's barn were gone, and we had a half-dozen or more each after the upgrade to 1.3 (where animals glitching out mostly stopped happening).

No I am kind of doing a tear down to improve it, but what had been done to it had prevented it from working.. At least they didn't let the in mates out. That was the hard part.

Looks like my castle home was robbed as well (just now going back to look at it). I know I had more stuff in the chests, including some diamonds... No idea how much other than I know those chests had a lot more stuff.

O well.... I am barely in the mood to play... Also there seems to be barely anyone else around... guess I am just board of building.

The trick is to arrange a time where we can all build something together.  I've found that's quite fun, especially since we can each take on one of the more specialized jobs (get food production going / get raw materials / put together building shells / etc).

I haven't been on in a little while just because there's been kids' sports starting up.

Oh and...  Where's your castle home?  Or are you talking about the one on the island?

Yes, someone punch the front door in and also dug some odd holes inside... As well the chests are fairly bare.  Been too long to remember what was in them, just went back because I ran out of food and thought there was some there still.

So is it more that we're all on at different times and that you'd like to have others on, or is it that you just don't have any burnin'-the-brain ideas of what you would like to build anymore?  I know that I keep thinking of new things and putting them on the list but I just haven't found time recently.

I've hit that wall with Tekkit, that's why I went back to Mincraft and started challenging myself with building designs n' stuff.

I think when the weather turns, my parents get their house squared away and I finish some more art commissions I'll have more time for Minecraft again.

Yeah, someone really did a number on my inn. I didn't check it out until now. Apart from the destruction and random mining, almost all my animals are gone, my enchantment room is completely destroyed and a lot of my stuff is stolen (my precious ore!). It's not all bad though, they left a bunch of flowers, seeds and flint in my donation box (it's probably my stuff heh).

Aethun, the destruction is probably from the first creeper that found me and blew up when I was visiting your inn, and then from the second and third creepers that found me while I was trying to fix the damage from the first.

The missing stuff might've been taken by the players building just a little bit away from you, or could've been taken by the griefer(s).  One of those players is my daughter so I'll ask her and tell her to ask her friends, and explain that we're just trying to figure out where it went.

It's no big deal really. I don't remember exactly what I had, but I think I had collected quite a lot of ore at least. I guess when I said I had abandoned the inn, I meant I wasn't going to expand on it and I didn't really care about the destruction the creeper's made, but I didn't mean the stuff was free for the taking if that is what happened. Sorry if that was vague.

I'm going to bed now, so I probably won't be on the server when you are.

Either way let me know I may be recording video on our server tonight.
:o ZOMG! Going to stream it? Or are you doing a more professional style edited video?

Just testing the water first, I want to see if I have everything set up properly first.

Then I'll see where I'm going from there :)
So here's a hypothetical question, if I were to join you, which one of us would be Simon? :o I'm honestly not sure.

Hahaha, well there would be the irrational run into a cave one and the EVEN MORE irrational jump into lava one

hahaha
Sounds like a good time though. Let me know if you want me to show up. Having a bit of an off day anyhow, so not much work happening ;D (I really need to make sure I pick up my prescriptions before I run out, rather than several days after... >:(  )

Sure thing!

Also same, I've been without one of my meds for a few days now. In fact I should go to the drugstore tomorrow and pick 'em up

I've actually quite enjoyed doing YouTube vids so far for arty stuff, so it's natural that I'd want to show off some cool Minecraft things :).

I also found there are some really basic Tekkit things that, while there ARE tutorial videos there aren't many GOOD tutorial videos so I may do a few of those too :D

The main thing I have to figure out is if CamStudio will work with Minecraft or if I just have to upgrade to Fraps

I hear Fraps is better because the frame rate doesn't turn to coleslaw.

Once I figured out how to configure frame rates in CamStudio things got better. I know Fraps is better for framerate (especially in games) but if I want to go to the next level I may need to just get a dedicated capture card.

But we'll see what I can do with simple tools first.

Baby steps.

So I couldn't get CamStudio to play nice with a local setup (let alone server).

I'll try Fraps tomorrow I think :)

The griefers traveled quite extensively over the server.  They appear to have gone overland to my farm (takes a good half an hour at least), and from there they used my Netherrail to get to Nordvang.  They caused minor damage at the farm, and attempted to set loose all my animals, but luckily not many strayed.

They did more damage at Nordvang, and ruined some redstone circuitry it had taken me a while to set up.  It appears one of them fell from the top of the tower though, as I found their belongings in the lake below.

Wouldn't that mean you where only 5 min behind them and they are active on the server? I thought items disappear after 5 min?

The item timeout timer stops when chunks are unloaded.

It could be that they died there, spawned back at their bed at spawn, then never went back to get their gear.  I'm guessing it wasn't all that impressive anyway.

In many ways it's a pity Ender Chests weren't around before all this. You can use them as safes for your valuables.

Can they not still be destroyed by other players?

Even if they are your stuff is still there, just craft another Ender Chest :)

Nice, and that doesn't depend on at least one chest existing? (not that redundancy would be that hard)

Nope. each user has their own enderchest inventory. Even if all the chests are destroyed, the stuff is still there.

I think Lazy might be coming back to play soon :)

Yeah, think of the ender chest as just interface between your avatar and your avatar's private inventory-in-a-pocket-dimension.

I have popped on a few times to pick away at things http://mc.tomasu.org/#/486/64/423/-1/0/0 . I have a lot more demands on my normal day and home time these days... Sitting down for hours (it does take hours) of minecraft has not been in the cards.

Hey, I was wondering who put the lavaflow up there :)  And that floating island, have you made it bigger or did you move the trees?

It is getting bigger slowly, surface area is a pain, the bigger it gets the slower the perceived progress.. It takes several stacks of dirt to just increase a few squares in each direction.

I hear ya, it took almost 18 stacks of smooth sandstone just to lay the floor in Grand Central Station.  And then I filled in caves right under the floor (since I was falling down there anyway), which took another 3 or 4 stacks of dirt and cobble.

Do you have any grandiose plans for it?
Title: Re: Stolen Goods

The original plan was to build a castle or village and import some NPCs etc.

Was going to build a sand generator up there and use glass for a lot of things.

That was the general plan.

Neither portals should work higher up now so I was thinking of moving it up as well out of its current cave.

As far as I can tell, there's nothing missing except for some animals, which I can breed again from remaining stock.  Thanks though.

That's my guess as well.  They didn't know about the hidden route to the farm and so would have had another long trip to retrieve their gear. which wasn't that impressive.

I think you can push Villagers through Portals now so you might be able to import some through the nether

My prison / iron factory villagers all escaped or where killed by zombies.

Before I import any all the way there I will have to build up some golums to protect the area and fence in the edges.

Some jerkface took all the potatoes from my house near spawn

I don't mind if people use renewable resources like crops but replant things before you leave!
Title: Re: Stolen Goods
Post by: Thorin on March 04, 2013, 09:23:49 AM
I have no idea who would've taken them, but if you need more potatoes there should be some at the Urban Wildlife Repopulation Center (aka Spawnsville Ranch), in the chest at the front door.  Back when I first found potatoes, I planted them in several places around spawn as well, so you could look in other people's gardens.

Like I say it's not so much that people were in the patch touchin' muh stuffs, it's that they left nothing at all for anyone else.

Perhaps I need to trap the area lol
