Title: Poker Tournament Resources
Post by: HandsomeDevil on December 05, 2006, 09:20:57 AM
Throwing a home game? Not sure about starting chips and blind structures?

I've found a great poker information resource at http://www.homepokertourney.com/ (http://www.homepokertourney.com/).

There's some great guides for chip distribution: http://www.homepokertourney.com/chips_needed.htm (http://www.homepokertourney.com/chips_needed.htm)

Blind structures: http://www.homepokertourney.com/blinds.htm (http://www.homepokertourney.com/blinds.htm)

Armed with this you never have to hear "Let's just double the blinds every time some one gets knocked out" or "Oh, just divide all the chips by the number of people" again. *shudder*

Thanks for posting this, I'm sure I'll be using the info for Friday.  My web filter at work is blocking the sites, but I'll look at 'em when I get home.

Also recommended and easily digestible:
The amiable Phil Gordon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Gordon) offers some free excerpts from his "Expert Insight (http://www.expertinsight.com/_Phil+Gordon+Insights.html)" Poker DVD. Check out all these tips (http://www.tiltboys.com/blog/2006/10/free-poker-tips-on-video_116051763804233935.html#comments); a nice collection of quick audio/video tips as well -- including a well-articulated explanation of both hand rankings, *and* betting rounds
(In NL the minimum bet is no less than the previous raise, i.e. if the BB was 200 and Ustauk raised it to 800, that means anyone re-raising Ustauk would have to raise by another 600 at the minimum -- But I think "oops" in the past we had been allowing re-raises of the BB as a minimum, which of course made for insane round-the-table-we-go raising chains :P <-- this also is covered on the fantastic site you found (http://www.homepokertourney.com/betting.htm) )
