Title: Duke Not'em
Post by: Darren Dirt on May 07, 2009, 10:14:21 AM
"I've never seen a company get so much unnecessary press for delivering absolutely nothing"
http://www.pcworld.com/article/164487/duke_nukem_fornever_3d_realms_shutting_down.html/

rumours of 3DR's demise are in fact, not untrue (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?p=867590#post867590).

SHELL GAME OVER.

Heck if the game was over 95% there and mostly worked they could release a 'pre release' version for say $10. My betting is they would sell a few 100,000's which would give them enough money to patch the game to completion.

But my gut tell me (especially if they were after $5 million to finish the game) that the game is nowhere near done.

My cynical nature tells me that we have all be taken for a ride and indeed that have been lounging around playing WoW, drinking beer and eating pizza and not really working on DNF at all.

Time will tell... but that has always need the DNF story.

PS: Isn't it funny that the most gameplay footage we saw was released in 2001 (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/duke-nukem-forever-article)?? What's happened for the last 8 freakin' years? (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/duke-nukem-forever-article?page=2) (maybe the devs did get addicted to WoW... ;) )

The end of an era of DNF butted jokes...

So, what "lucky" company will inherit the license?

Take-Two owns it still, at least the publishing rights

Found this today - chronicling of Duke Nukem's development from 1996: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/features/47003/Duke-Nukem-Forever-Through-The-Years (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/features/47003/Duke-Nukem-Forever-Through-The-Years)

And then this article made me laugh: http://uk.games.ign.com/articles/981/981284p1.html (http://uk.games.ign.com/articles/981/981284p1.html)

^ for the lazy folks, the "laugh" article is basically "noteable human achievements that were accomplished in less time than DNF" (for example, THE BEATLES (from start to finish!) and the complete construction of The Chunnel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chunnel#Progress).)

PS: ah, what might have been (http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/47541/PC/Duke-Nukem-Forever/Trailer/Duke-Nukem-Forever-E3-2001-Trailer)... (I skimmed thru the images that charted out the story, man it sounds like it woulda been a hellafun game...)
