So in February 2014 Yahtzee did a fake-review (of TLOZ: A Link Between Worlds) as an excuse to knock the Wii-U. Was he correct? And any chance the lack of 3rd party titles is finally being addressed?

Come to think of it, Feb.2014 seemed to be a month where he had a habit of using a "review" as just an excuse to knock something -- Kickstarter as another example:

It's actually an AMAZING game, but we all know how much Yahtzee loves his JRPGs ::)

I hear a lot of people talk about the lack of 3rd party games, they do have a good collection of games by 3rd party publishers, but not as many as other consoles

In my opinion they're FINALLY getting out the good games but can the Wii U survive to the end of the year, with publishers like Ubisoft holding back on title releases? Who knows for sure.

I mean if they wanted a coup they should have had Smash Bros ready for post E3 and not wait for the winter season. I think that they're actually hamstringing the 3DS release of Smash because western gamers will wait for the big screen version which will be a month or so later.

The real story with the Wii U has just been arrogance from Nintendo, they were so sure they had a winner (like the Wii) but all the key games that people wanted were delayed and they only had a few exclusive launch titles (Zombie U), not to mention the hardware looked a little off putting (and seriously after having bought a couple pro controllers that's what they should have launched with rather than the tablet). Last year saw a complete dearth of games and a lot of delay announcements which has made it seem that nothing was happening on that console. To make things worse virtually zero marketing went into some really quite innovative games (like The Wonderful 101!).

Between that and all the DRM lock-in we all know Nintendo for people were really just not going out of their way to get their hands on it.
