Title: City of Heroes Revival!!!
Post by: Melbosa on July 17, 2010, 06:04:02 PM
So Steam had Champions Online on sale a couple of weeks back and I grabbed it to see what the difference was between them.  Although CO has a bit more of a comic feel to it, it just came up short to CoH/CoV.

Well you guessed it... I re-activated my CoH and now I'm back in it again.  This is a call to arms for anyone who wants to just play casually again on this game.  I am really engrossed again and looking for friends to play with.  So if you are interested, even if you want to grab a trial and jump in with me, I'll be on when I can.

So what say you?  Are you able to brave the Paragon again?

Not sure if I'll get on tonight or not (kinda busy, packing for Drumheller)

Hey!  I see you made it on... might have even been on at the same time... was trying out a new class today.

Remember to look for @Melbosa globally, as I could be on as any toon.

Oh he's doin' good :) I logged in to change my graphics settings. I may create a new toon just to get the feel for the game back.

I had some problems getting it to run in the correct resolution using Windows 7. Turns out it was my desktop zoom feature that was gumming it up.

Considered it for a minute when I saw this thread... but no, gotta decline, life is super-busy right now, won't go into details but I really gotta be moving forward on a lot of things.

Oh and BTW if you guys didn't already, don't forget to install the "map" hack that I remember finding and using and loving (it showed on your map the location of stores, etc... or did a later Official Update end up including that stuff?)

edit: omG has it REALLY been that long? 2004?
http://www.gamerscircle.net/2004/08/04/city-of-heroes-map-hack-updated/

I'm guessing the latest version of the Official installer does indeed have the locations visible on the map (instead of you having to memorize locations, which is what you had to do before the above-linked "hack" was released by some fans of the game)

Booourns DD!

And yes the map has all that on it now.  Sure is easier to navigate now.

I was tempted as well, however I do not have enough time to dedicate to it to make the monthly fee worth while...

I haven't even played the latest over lord DLC for Mass Effect 2 yet and I really want to.

It was quite by accident that I ended up playing, first I wanted to play TF2 but all the decent Pub servers were full, so I decided to shoot some arrows at some drug pushers haha :)

Also I discovered one of my router QoS settings had reset some time ago, I disabled it and my bandwidth nearly quadrupled, so a-torrenting I did go.

But yeah, I'll definitely look you up next time I'm on. Gotta start a new character with some of them funky new powers.

OK... not sure you can use the new archtypes without the expansion, but I know you can't go onto the new area without it.

But if you don't want to spend monies on the expansion, no biggy.  I'll join you with a new toon of my own if you want with any of your characters or a new one as well if you'd like :D.

You can't, but the expansion is pretty cheap so likely I will get it.

DUAL GUNS!!

Demon summoning sounds fun too...

So, I "went Rogue" yesterday, I have two new toons:

-The Transmigrant, lvl 6 dual pistols/power blaster, looks like a steampunk Victorian (top hat, long coat, etc, but with two laser sighted revolvers.

-Ignicia, lvl 6, fire/fire brute, looks like a fembot.

I like the dual pistols but I'm finding the recharge time on some attacks is bloodly slow as heck.

I love playing as a fire/fire brute, I made it to lvl 6 about twice as fast as my blaster (yay clumps of guys to wail on).

I decided to send The Transmigrant to join the resistance, their dialog is funny and the missions are full of interesting moral decisions.

Ignicia is on the side of law and order and is enjoying the fame that that brings. Some interesting political intrigue in the storyline there so far.

I like both toons, when I get them both to lvl 10 I'll have to choose one or the other, I guess it depends on what the other RW clan members powers are. I love playing brute but I need a defender or controller sometimes when I take on a mob of oranges or higher to help me keep my rage up without dying. Blaster is fun but again either a controller or a melee fighter would help keep them back away from my pansy ass.

I was gonna try Demon Mastermind until I logged in with my blaster and saw about a jillion of them crawling around Nova Praetoria already, so glad I didn't pick that class.

I'll post pics later.

What levels / archetypes are you?

Also, I was only playing Sunday, maybe 5-6 hours or so :)

LVL 9 dual pistol/gadget technology blaster
LVL 17 demon/[some healing fire thing] magic mastermind

The above are the two new toons on the Going Rogue stuff.  I have so many other characters, I pretty much could join you at any level ;)

Dang, either one of those works with my archetypes. Well, I'll try to get my toons up to lvl 10 tonight or I may try out one of the other new classes. I've only had it installed since about noon yesterday haha.

Even though brute is an existing class, it's the most fun for me but I wanna try some more of the new classes out too.

I could try one of those new controller classes (Electricity I think?), that way I could dual wield pistols AND handle crowd control / buffs.

Still like the Brute class though hehe, it's what I thought tank would be like, but a million times better.

We need a 3rd player who can play controller/defender... MEDIC!!!

You can get Super jump at level 6 now, no more climbing that extra powerset tree (go directly to fun, do not pass go, do not collect $200).

Well Mel, looks like we'll have to find some new recruits!

K, turns out my brain is rusty, I had levelled up Ignicia to 9 and Transmigrant to 7:

-(The) Transmigrant, lvl 7 dual pistols/power blaster (teleport)

-Ignicia, lvl 9, fire/fire brute (superjump yay!)

-(The) Shokka, lvl 6, elec/elec dominator (flight swoooooooosh!)

I was quite surprised how fun playing a dominator was actually, it's crowd control, but with damage. The Electricity attacks are pretty good and the holds work great.

The tricky bit now is picking which one to roll with... they're all great.

Oh yeah, my global ID is @Bop (easy!)

Well Melvarson, the MM Demon/Thermal Rad is now almost 20.  I hear after 20 you have to go to the original zones because the new stuff is only content till 20.

Yep, I probably started a little earlier as I was only having leftovers last night :)

I'm finding levelling is WAY faster.

Hey do you have to choose the CoH side or the CoV side after you run out of zones??
