Title: NES Classic
Post by: Melbosa on April 13, 2017, 01:14:15 PM
Well while I'm surprised how well this did with Retro Pis so popular, I'm even more surprised on how limited the release of the NES Classic is going to be: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2017/04/13/nintendo-discontinues-the-nes-classic-edition

One of the guys in my office got one, and I've tried it out.  Takes you back to your childhood of Console Gaming if anyone here owned one (and I know some of you did).

Again though not all is lost if you are looking for that retro gaming feel with Retro Pi pretty affordable.

WELP I hope they don't wonder why emulators continue to exist.

Well the NES classic IS just an emulator.. Even accepts other roms with w lite mod http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/1/9/14214850/nes-classic-nintendo-hack-add-more-game

There are some nice retro controlers for the PI and a number of 3d printed cases https://all3dp.com/raspberry-pi-nintendo-nes-case/

The thing is Nintendo is a angry spiteful beast that lashes out frequently and unexpectedly. They make us re-buy the same ROMs / emulators on every iteration of their eShop (because locking software to hardware is a thing that makes them money)

The great irony is if they had sold this as just a box that played ROMs and then sold us the ROMs either through download or SD cards it would have been monumental, but no, back to playing whack-a-mole with ROM sites and game hackers
