It could be that they're on the part of the electrical grid that was shut off.  The power company doesn't have their grid set up nicely per block or per neighbourhood in Calgary, it's sorta haphazard and so to turn off the electricity in a flooded area might mean turning off the electricity in a non-flooded area that's on the same part of the grid.

But yeah, Alberta Registries' data center setup leaves a lot to be desired.
If that's the case, then my house keeping leaves a little to be desired.

As opposed to the Photo map, there is now an official Crisis map.

Google has generated a detailed Alberta Crisis map for evacuation zones, bridge and road closures etc.

Very useful esp. the next week or so if you're trying to get around your drenched city, for sure. Seems to only include Calgary, and Medicine Hat -- btw WOW MH is showing almost entirely as an evac-zone.

I still find the photos to be more ... personal, somehow. Instead of just degree-of-impact, you see visually the businesses or cars or roads (and especially tunnels/bridges) and how badly they were impacted (can be easily compared to Street View).

Just found a Google map that seems to have collected hundreds of photos with their location. http://goo.gl/maps/q6KmN

Mr. Analog

The City of Calgary is asking for volunteers now

Also, on the home front here in Edmonton, a lot of locations/trails along the river valley are underwater due to the river swelling up. So if you planned on going biking in the river valley you may want to think twice first as a lot of the bike trails are shut down.

What surprised me is that in many parts of Calgary the water has receded and they've already got dumpsters out on the streets and people are tearing out their soggy drywall and carpeting from their basements.  That's a damn fast response!  Of course other parts, like the Saddledome, still have water in them.

Mr. Analog

I feel like they are doing the right thing but it's going to take a long time to clean things up.

I wonder if they are going to cancel the Stampede this year (or maybe move it)?

I'd be more worried about how long the C-Train lrt is gonna be out of service:

tbh re. the Stampede, I've seen this passed around the internet a ton this weekend:

Strong Alberta spirit, and all that, I guess. (UPDATE: this Calgary radio station is apparently the source, at least for it going viral so quickly)

even talked about in NEVADA!

Realistically they have TWO WEEKS to clean up the grounds and deal with people displaced by the flooding to free up accommodations for tourists.

I know the Stampede is a HUGE tourist draw for Calgary but if they run it it's either going to be on a limited scale or not at all.

and inside the Saddledome -- #muddymess indeed!

The Saddledome outside -- as recently as Sunday still a wet mess (as is most of the "Elbow Park" area just south of the Stampede grounds all the way to the Bow)

"An estimated 1 million people attend the Calgary Stampede every year, with 30-40% of those attendees coming from outside the city, and including foreign tourists from the U.S, the U.K, Australia and parts of Asia. In 2009, it was estimated that revenue from the event was over $172 million dollars, and for a city of 1 million people, that's a lot of business. The difficulty of hosting the event, with a crippled downtown core will mean hotels and executive suites reservations may not be able to accommodate the tourists, and the C-Train which is the preferred method of travel for many is still not operational. ...The other important highlight of this years event, is a partnership between Disney Studios Canada and the Calgary Stampede. A cross promotional partnership between Disney Studios Canada and The Calgary Stampede was intended to launch with the premiere of the movie, The Lone Ranger. The movie is scheduled to open July 3, 2013, and is directed by Gore Verbinski and stars Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Disney Studios Canada is promoting the Calgary Stampede through marketing materials and messages to audience viewers to "Kick Off Their Stampede" by viewing the Lone Ranger. In return, Calgary had promised grand prize trip for two, with accommodations and exclusive "White Hat" treatment to venue events." (source)

GL, Calgarians! The blow to the local economic if the show doesn't go on = hard to imagine.

And especially good luck Medicine Hat -- since you are the combining of so many waterways, it's not gonna be pretty...

That is a smart move... It should significantly reduce the number of buildings that get written off if they can remove the wet stuff ASAP. Once the mold starts it can cause the whole building to be come unsafe and a write off.

The Google map indicates that the traffic camera's are coming back online with the power, so it is now possible to see part of Calgary live.

Mr. Analog

I'm glad they are getting power back so soon.

Hopefully Medicine Hat does as well

I would've expected it to take a little longer than the day after flooding subsided for them to get garbage containers out on the streets.  To me, that's superior planning and organizing.  You're right that it's a smart move.
