Title: Avengers 2 and Marvel TV
Post by: Melbosa on August 16, 2012, 11:41:16 AM
Looks like stars are aligned.  Joss Whedon is back to do Avengers 2 and will be released May 1, 2015: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/08/16/is-this-avengers-2s-release-date

And it also looks like he is doing an ABC TV Show for Marvel as well: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/08/07/joss-whedon-returns-for-avengers-2

These things makes me happy... yous?

"Joss is Boss"

"Like a Joss."

on the web comments always add value to articles, even if they're just obvious puns and pop culture references (hey wait that's what Mr. Whedon is well-known for as well!)  8)

To be honest I'm surprised.

That said there was a LOT of marketing for this one before hand.

I missed it, but I'm sure I'll be torrenting the series soon.  And then, no having to mute the TV for 2.5 minutes out of every 10.

Yes.  Commercials.  I hates them, and they're still bloody louder than the shows I watch.

Avengers 2 trailer just leaked (and then "officially released").
May.
Ultron* looks bad-ass. With attitude to match.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFlK-c4hfrI

Overall the look of the film is pretty damn dark, heck at certain moments freakin' depressing. Which is good, all of that raises the stakes, builds up the tension, etc.

* and he's not alone... based on the commentary that follows the video I linked to. But I'm not a Marvel comics geek so I don't know what's likely gonna happen with everything (and I don't want to know; I really enjoyed the Avengers AND GotG because I went into both COLD, when it comes to the characters' canon history).

That Youtube video started up and it said itw as 11:51 long.  HOORAY!  THIS SHOULD BE AWESOME.  After less than two minutes, a guy starts talking over-top of stills from the trailer :(
Title: Re: Avengers 2 and Marvel TV
Post by: Darren Dirt on October 24, 2014, 02:33:47 PM
Yeah that lengthy video first shows the entire trailer, and then it's just Charlie rambling on with speculation and fanboy excitement. Like he does in his videos after every single Doctor Who episode, short, or even teaser (https://www.youtube.com/user/emergencyawesome/search?query=Doctor+Who). Kinda fun sometimes, annoying other times -- but there's something about his sincerity, his eagerness, that makes him far more watchable than a lot of youtubers. But personally I've just watched a handful of DW videos. ( I have a life ;) )

PS: in the background of the trailer, nice creepy rendition of a Disney classic song eh? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27ve_Got_No_Strings (compare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4Ac-WCPWSQ vs the original from ol' wooden-nose https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAykOz1gWi4 )

So looks like the Marvel marketing guys have gone way overboard with this particular film.

If you've seen all the trailers and teasers and almost-the-whole-scene clips, then apparently...
"You've Already Watched 14 Minutes of Avengers: Age of Ultron"
http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a34338/avengers-age-of-ultron-trailers/

I have made a decision to avoid anything before viewing, the trailers from a couple months ago were good enough to get me interested, but even those gave away a bit much about the obvious progression of the story.

Not to mention that after GotG I decided read a bunch of Wikipedia pages etc. about the major Marvel storylines that are inspiration for all of these huge film releases... Now I am gonna not spoil the fun of experiencing fully the execution of these stories (which will also be modified or completely redone for the Big Screen).

PS: here's hoping it's better than the first Avengers film... so that way The Joss can be happy with it (http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/a34315/joss-whedon-not-thrilled-with-first-avengers-film/) ;)

So in the 3 day measure, Avengers 2 did not quite measure up to the first movie.

DOMESTICALLY anyway. Look at its foreign take:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?id=topsuperhero.htm

400million, in just the first 3 days!? vs. 800million for Avengers #1 all together (foreign). Yeesh, a hundred million here, a hundred million there, pretty soon, you're talking real money.

To be honest I think the title put people off. Anything with a colon and a weird name smacks of badness

BUT from what I hear it's on par with the original and worth seeing

If I hadn't been SO HUNGOVER (goddamn) on Saturday I would have gone to a matinee

Apparently it's a bit "over-long" and has a bit too much Whedon-esque dialog for some.

So I'll probably love it. :)

BTW Whedon is all like "Damn you, Harry!" -- look at all the records his A2:AoU ALMOST broke:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/days/?page=open&p.htm Opening Day
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/days/?page=single&p=.htm Single-Day take
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/days/f-th.htm?page=Fri&p=.htm Best Friday Ever

The final Potter film was #1 for all 3.

And it was also #1 for this -- but Avengers 2 was basically an "also-ran" -- http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/worldwideopenings.htm

Just a moment ago I saw a post about somebody on twitter complaining about Whedon's "overly Whedonesque" dialogue for Black Widow... Whedon blocked him (big baby)

Oh Internet :)

I loved it... thought it was very good.  More humour than the first and I think some people will be put off by the Widow/Hulk stuff (not saying anything more).  But I think it is very close to the original... although I think it just misses the mark because its not as "kewl" as when you first see these heroes together for the first time.

Yeah, I can see the novelty not being as big a factor, which makes its success even greater!

I haven't seen it yet. I might go see it soon, not sure when. It's a pain to get to the new theatre over here :( only the peak hour bus goes by it :(

I thought the same thing about the novelty factor going into Winter Soldier but that movie was fantastic

Either way I'll be seeing it

And it wasn't just because people said "Avengers 2 wasn't as amazing as the first film!" ... it was because assclowns had to assclown.

"spencer in purple" is my personal head-asplode-favorite... "is a strong female character not in your vocabulary?"

If Joss isn't "feminist" enough, WTFF could ever please these kind of moronic extremist SJWs?

IMHO, if Joss Whedon wasn't enough of a feminist for you than your standards might very well be impossible for a man to achieve.
By design.
(It is by design. If all problems were fixed then they would become useless, and why would they want that.)

If you have a penis, you're a misogynist. Period. Full stop. That's third wave feminism in a nutcase... Sorry, nutshell.

We're hoping for nice warm weather rather than rain.  Long range forecast is low 20s and sun, but long range forecasts are crapshoot.

Enjoy the movie, hopefully I get out to see it in the next couple of weeks.

Short range forecasts are a crapshoot these days. Any time I bother to pay attention, its barely accurate to 2 days, and sometimes not even then. After 3 days, the forecast just keeps changing, fairly wildly.
