I guess the recent drop is not all of the recent rise... but 'member when 20k seemed to be just a step towards much higher value?

TBH for like 2 years I have been meaning to really look into getting a basic secure BTC wallet set up but always felt intimidated, or worried I would be making security mistakes...

I have generally assumed that at some point BTC will fold and be replaced by better tech and near that  peak I was think, DAMN all those people taking out loans for BTC or mining hardware are going to loose all their @%&#.

There are currently 3 or 4 generations of blockchain based currencies / networks in use. BTC is one of the slowest, most centralized (due to hardware mining hardware companies) and backward tech wise (huge power needs for processing, essentially secondary networks on top for speed such as lightning).
