Title: THE END
Post by: Mr. Analog on December 13, 2012, 04:33:56 AM
So, I was bored and decided to go hunting for the End Portal Frame, I found it just west of the Pyramid, I built a small hut out of bricks and a ladder down into a curiously hollowed out room:

I propose we deck out some gear, put an ender chest in our inventory and try to slay a dragon!

oooo that didn't take long.

I've crafted a couple Eye of Ender already, if you right click them they go in the direction of the portal frame, when they find it they sink into the ground.

I dug down one block and fell into a big room full of torches, it connected to the portal frame room in what looks like a very large Stronghold.

I built a hut around the hole so it's easier to find, I added a ladder as well for easy access.

Now the challenge is to collect Ender Pearls and Blaze rods so we can craft more eyes for the frame.

What might help is some good armour, and some fire protection potions :)

Are you willing to wait almost a week before we do this?  I'm busy all weekend...

Ditto unfortunately.

Sure!

I may scout ahead and get a base started.

I should be able to put down an Ender Chest and build a small house.

You mean in The End?  Once you're in there, you won't be able to come back...

If you die you go back to /home wherever that was last.

I may or may not have also installed the mod for /back and /home, which may work from different dimensions.

Woo well then it may not be a one way trip after all!

I'll still bring an Ender Chest and get things established.

...hmm actually I'm gonna need to farm Endermen and Blazes first. I only have three Eye of Ender at the moment and one is going into another chest.

Since the dragon can destroy most block types and endermen can move most block types you may want to make an obsidian  bunker with a steel door in the end so the endermen do not dismantle it and so once the dragon is attacking there is somewhere to hide.

That's what I was thinking.

It doesn't have to be anything grand, just a place to stage attacks from.

Well for Blazes there's a Blaze Farm down in Pants's neck of the woods.  For Ender Pearls, there's a bunch at the Taj Moo Hal.  For obsidian, I think there's still a stack at the Taj Moo Hal, but you might have to go down to the mine (go in the work hut with all the storage and furnaces, then go down the ladder, then there's a bunch more chests there).

I am thinking dig down a litteral bunker below ground level (if possible) with steps down then a small obsidian / steal door frame... if the roof is at least 3 or 3 levels below ground I don't think the endermen will lift enough blocks to get down, thus minimizing the obsidian use to the door frame.  Also knowing minecrafts collition detection being under ground or in side a hill side would be much safer vs a free standing building if the attacks can penetrate 1 layer thick walls .

I'll be in Calgary, too, and in a hotel, too, but pretty much the whole weekend is filled with planned activities (hockey games, team parties, eating, sleep...).  I hope to get to Peter's Drive-In on the way home.

The dragon will blow holes through many layers of that enderstone stuff. It's surprisingly soft. Probably worse than netherrack. It almost seems like the dragon's breath goes /through/ it as well.

So for safety a deep bunker? With an obsidian roof?

Might be over thinking not sure how hare it will really be to defeat but having a safe house is always nice.

Probably just need a couple people aggroing the dragon while another couple go after the beacons with bows.

With four or five of us it should be pretty easy.  We should bring lots of arrows - I have enough to fill five of our inventories, easy.  And I have a crap-ton of Power I bows, too.  I'm happy to share these with anyone who doesn't have a better bow :)

Yep, all good ideas, bows and arrows and ladders are a must, I'll set up something in the end this weekend, I won't directly engage though
Title: Re: THE END
Post by: Thorin on December 13, 2012, 10:20:10 PM
Unless it engages YOU :)  Apparently it can just fly through the endstone and obsidian?  And if we place non-endstone/obsidian, then those blocks turn into air when it flies through them?  Fortifications might not help that much.  Might be worthwhile setting up a Skype call so we can OH @%&# WATCH OUT to each other.

NOOOOOOOO! Ender Dragon can go THROUGH Obsidian!!! And Endstone! And Bedrock. I would really like to take on the Ender Dragon, and build a shrine to dedecate the victory of man over the Ender Dragon, with the Dragon Egg in it. So, for help, I offer a full strategy, as suggested on the Minecraft Wiki, and from personal experience.
You will need the following to take on the Ender Dragon:

As for strategy, here is the most important points. Firstly we must take out all of the EnderCrystals as they heal the Dragon. Secondly, do not attack the Endermen, the last time I was there, they left me alone. Thirdly, spread out a little, but stay together. Fire Arrows only really, don't try to melee. Although melee does more, with enough of us and no EnderCrystals, there won't be a problem. If you do get close enough to melee, it most likely means he has charged you, so dig one block down to prevent yourself from falling off the world and into the Void. But most important, do not go there unless the attack force is all going! There is no return portal, the only way back is to kill the Dragon, or die. Why do you think they call it the "End"?

Hey, I figured out how to turn four Power I bows into one Power III bows.  Only takes 17 levels (or 292xp, or 59 skeletons), so I can probably make one every ten minutes or so.  I could make about fifteen Power III bows...  I also have over four double chests of arrows, somewhere around 240 stacks.

What do we need still, Eyes of Ender?  And when do we want to try and do this?

Okay, the bows would help, as well as the arrows. Unless Mr.Analog has already put the Eyes in the frame, we are good. We could bring some Ender Pearls for travel though...

Still need more ender pearls but yeah, we gotta tool up for this, don't forget about potions and whatnot, we should also put an ender chest in The End to keep a supply link

Bring lots of ladders!

As for when we try this? As soon as we can all gear up!

I'm just mining to hopefully get an enchanted set of diamond armor, and second; how are we going to split the EnderDragon's XP?

I'm just in it for the experience not the XP :P, so all of you can split.

I did an End run with my little guy tonight.  We were in creative mode since he's only in grade one.  Man, that dragon is hard to hit!  We tried with bow and arrow but kept missing, so we switched to snowballs (the machinegun of the Minecraft world).  even then, it took twenty minutes of sustained machinegunningsnowballing to kill him.  We had a hit ratio of probably 1:100 (one hit for every hundred snowballs thrown).

This could be tougher than you think :)

You did this at home?

I ask because I'm pretty sure The End does not reset once you've beaten it.

Tom?

Yes, at home on a LAN world that we spun up for just this reason.  Hence on creative, since my little guy doesn't have op status to change to creative :P

Usamot's End's virginity is still intact.

Post by: Mr. Analog on January 26, 2013, 12:47:37 AM
Cool! You can use the snowballs on the crystals, once those are all down then you can take the dragon out.

When we take it on we need people to distract it while others work on destroying the healing crystals.

Lots of bows!

Post by: Thorin on January 26, 2013, 12:54:11 AM
The first thing we did was take out the healing towers.  We were in creative, so I just flew up to them and shot them and they exploded on first contact.  It still took forever!

I figure one stack of bread, baked potatoes, porkchops, or steak, one regular bow, one Power III bow, two pickaxes, and 31 stacks of arrows...
