Yeah, fireworks is kinda cool, we'll be able to put together an actual fireworks display, with the ability to have it explode in small balls, large balls, stars, or creeper faces, and you can also add popcorn crackling or streamer trails.  The colours can be changed with dyes, and one firework can hold up to three different explosive charges (called "firework stars").  On the one hand it doesn't serve any purpose in the game, on the other hand I can totally see groups of friends getting together for giant fireworks displays in-game...
