Title: playing vanilla with others online
Post by: Thorin on February 22, 2013, 02:24:34 PM
Anyone planning on / interested in doing some Minecrafting on the vanilla server tonight?  Might be more interesting if there's a couple of us on at the same time and we pick some smaller project to accomplish...

Skype, yes.  Lets aim for 7pm Edmonton time.  And no goats.

You guys have projects you want to work on / complete?

I was thinking of stashing my current gear and starting from tree-punching on!

Like we did with MooTopia

The Direwolf20 FTB pack is getting the Twilight Forest mod, which I believe has Goats. It also has deer, Centaurs, Bunnies, Birds and a bunch of other awesome stuff.

God, I remember that one video where the Yogscast ended up with about a billion rabbits in one tiny house.

Speaking of which have you seen the latest Voltz video where Sips and Sjin nearly destroy all of time and space?

I haven't been watching the Voltz stuff, I started watching the other two but it was rather boring.

I think there have only been 3 episodes so far, they're finally starting to build the cool stuff, but yesterday's episode (the one I linked) is a must watch.

Well I know the other two have been doing it for a while.

Duncan and Xephos? Yeah 11 episodes or so

Seeing the sonic explosive in the first couple episodes was pretty good though heh, also the robocop suit

I'm curious about this collider Xephos is trying to build, other Voltz videos I've seen seemed to use a machine that built the tunnel for you, I dunno, maybe this is an older version or something.

All I know is that I want to know what the hell Ridgedog has in those trees!

I like this idea. Starting right from tree-punching with no food or anything from our homebases? Where would you want to go build?

There might be a couple more online with us...  And they might call me dad.  I DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE.

How about we build a small settlement on this island at -1046,1331: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-1046/64/1331/-2/0/0

Also, we're starting with absolutely zero equipment, right?  Not even food?  I think that'd be the best challenge :)  We could /tp everyone to the island as if it were spawn...

THE ISLAND

I like it

So I built the monstrosity you'll see when you next join, but I mixed up a couple different types of traps/farms. I'll be taking the tower down. :( Too bad, I thought it looked decent for a mob grinder. ah well. Just have to drop the mobs back down near the mob spawner because I forgot you have to be within a certain distance of the spawners for them to activate. herp derp. Though that tower would probably work well with a platform style mob trap, so if anyone wants to keep it, be my guest.

Attached some screenies for posterity.

fun times. /almost/ had a working grinder done. ah well. I might come on tomorrow to fix it all.

holy cow Tom!  That looks really nice.  The only problem, of course, would be the zombies burning in the sunlight as they're going up and then back down, since sunlight goes through glass.

As Mr. A. said last night, it was amazing how much we got done in just a few hours!  BMan_C was on from 7pm to 9pm, YellowBear_ was on from 7pm to 10pm, Mr_Analog was on from 7pm to 12am, ThorinC was on from 7pm to 2am, and Tom was on from 7pm to 4am.  That's 26 person-hours, and we built (basically in this order):

- watchtower
- underground hovel house
- a couple of mines
- ranch-style house
- wheat and melon farm
- sugar cane farm
- birch tree farm
- swimming pool with pool chairs and two water slides and parasol and cake
- moai heads
- a third of a large mansion
- cow ranch
- enchantment table
- xp farm based on zombie spawner
- active nether portal
- large wheat farm

Here's two awesome views: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-1042/64/1311/-2/0/0 and http://tomasu.org:8123/?worldname=righteouswrath&mapname=surface&zoom=5&x=-1064&y=64&z=1306

Thanks for playing, everyone, it was really fun to be online with others, and now I have a few new projects to finish (that giant mansion, making a perfect-placed portal in the nether since right now The Island's portal links to the Mooshroom Island portal, collecting glowstone to light up the mansion without torches, gathering more diamonds to make enchanted tools).

I suspected that was going to be an issue. I could lower the head a bit. But It's not going to be tied directly to the zombie spawner anymore. It just won't work. So I might make a regular dark room based mob farm under it. If there's room. That way we can get some creepers and stuff.

Yeah, I want to finish the zombie farm/grinder, then see about converting the dropper to use the dark room type of mob farm.

Yeah, twasn't bad. But it took me a while to find something I wanted to do, other than go caving. :D

FYI, I'm on vanilla right now, and Sevalecan is on FTB. In case anyone was interested.

Oh, I should mention, I was noticing some lag on the server last night when I was all alone, I think it's due to my overviewer setup, it was set to use 4 threads, I've since turned that down to 2. Might make for a better experience.

Hey, caving is useful, you were gathering supplies for the rest of us :)

My mansion is getting big!  The second story is up, all it needs is a roof and some furnishings.  I mined glowstone in the nether and put it in the floors, looks so much better than torches.  I've also built more bookshelves around the enchantment table - there's 10 bookshelves now, which allows enchantments of at least level 20 (that's how high I saw them).

The Island is in desperate need of iron, though!

I might get on for a bit this weekend. I haven't felt like finishing my mob farm.

I wanna fix my house once I move those beds no one used outta there

Gonna build a diner too

A diner?  Cool!  50s style?

If you don't want those beds I'll happily take them off your hands to furnish my mansion.

YellowBear_ says I should make a rainbow roof for the mansion, since it's Rainbow Unicorn Mansion.  Dunno what to do about the unicorn, though...  maybe make a mod? :D

A quick google search indicates there are several Unicorn mods. Lol

I've spawned in four sheep so that I could start a sheep farm.  There are no sheep within a thousand blocks or more (I know, I looked).  I also killed off a bunch of the cows for leather for books, but I've been breeding the herd and it's getting bigger again (13 now, I think?).

The Rainbow Unicorn Mansion now has a rainbow roof: http://mc.tomasu.org/#/-966/64/1275/max/0/0 and http://tomasu.org:8123/?worldname=righteouswrath&mapname=surface&zoom=6&x=-973&y=64&z=1283.

Now to figure out what to do for a unicorn :)

Too bad you couldn't make light coloured fences

'Cause I bet you could make a unicorn out of white wool up there.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: UNICORN GET!

sure it's a bit blocky, and made of wool but you now have a unicorn on your rainbow mansion
Title: Re: playing vanilla with others online
Post by: Thorin on March 04, 2013, 09:08:58 PM
lol, you ain't kiddin' about blocky :)  We might need to move the horn a little so it's less of a rhino :P

Minecraft, where you can make anything given enough time.

I wonder if I should de-rail another Darren thread...

WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE RHINOCORN

I could have made it out of fences and just put a sign there saying "Imagine a Unicorn"

side note: don't let the kids name the building, otherwise a really nice looking building could get a couple of really weird things put on top of it :)

Well, I think it's nice looking, and since it's my building, I'm not biased.  :D

Side note: I was going to add some glowstone chandeliers however the nether gate has been rearranged in such a way to make navigating the nether extremely time consuming and dangerous (a 1x1 gangway from the stairs... OVER LAVA?)

Also have you people not heard of torches? Even with my brightness turned to full I had to strain, and I'm light sensitive!

:)
Title: Re: playing vanilla with others online

Live dangerously, cuz in this game YDOLO (You Don't Only Live Once).

There should have been a major hallway connecting to the rest of the Y=117 hallway network.  The stairs leading down to lower parts were just for me to collect glowstone.  But yeah, I should have thrown torches up, then the paths would show up on the overviewer and dynmapper.

As for rearranging the gate, all I did was create one at the same coordinates in the nether as in the overworld, because when I first built the overworld portal it linked to a nether portal that then linked back to an overworld portal somewhere else.  And when I first used it, I found myself on Mooshroom Island, a good 800 blocks away.

Oh, and there should be some glowstone in the mansion you can use if you need it.
