What gets me is the giant wall of video cards (or whatever they are) in the middle of the giant warehouse, and then just wide open spaces, not even a second wall of cards.

It's companies like these that have driven up the price of video cards for the rest of us.

Yep, and power use in some communities as well.

Proof of work AKA doing something hard for no reason to prove you are not scamming will likely die off in crypto, it is a common method of validation in first and second generation block chains that actually ends up centralizing the work which is counter to the whole idea of block chain.

Proof of stake or other more efficient methods will likely replace it and instantly kill of these "companies" based on speculation.
