cool beans it was 10 minutes of setting up and then ALLONS-Y...  https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200264746-Quick-Start-Step-by-Step helped

and then because it was incorrectly identifying NuWho S8 eps as classic Who, I searched and quickly found https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/11902-plex-and-doctor-who-episode-naming-convention/ and by simply adding " (2005)" and refreshing my folder voila GERONIMO!

Finished Time Heist tonight. Almost caught up! (I have up to Flatline in my Plex folder.)

LOL Thorin said what we were all thinkin

*SO* want to quote Urkel. But it was intentional (obv.) ... having daughters sure increases awareness of certain ... periodic challenges.

Good to hear it was easy. If you ever decide you wasn't to free up your laptop and run this on a cheap desktop, I say go for it. I have an old weak computer (8 years old, really cheap video card, only 2GB ram) running PMS and there's no hiccups even when transcoding HD files. You could buy the cheapest i3 machine out there and have no problems with it.

Thanks for the 2005 solution, I've been having that problem with my Doctor Who collection lately and I was just adjusting it via the web interface when I downloaded a new episode.
Prayin' for a 20!

gcc thorin.c -pedantic -o Thorin
compile successful

And we have a few threads here dedicated to mass file rename tools (if memory serves)

I usually give up and just go to folder view to find what I'm looking for :)

Yeah I only have like 6 episodes, and before PMS I had named them something like "S8ep1 Deep Breath ad4da27362faa...4fba.mp4" and happy to see that for PMS to work I only had to slightly* edit the name to "Doctor Who S08E01 Deep Breath ad4da27362faa...4fba.mp4" -- I could keep the episode title in there to make it human-friendly when I look at my file system directly, but still make it work with PMS. (the ad4da... part of the name is just what the source file was named on the streaming site from which I grabbed via a super-handy Firefox extension -- a while ago I did some comparing and short-listed to 2 of them -- one even works on Youtube's VIVO music videos (!) )

Also have a look at some Plex guides on that subject...
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201018497-Fix-Incorrect-Match
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201019537-Rename-a-badly-named-file

* "Optional_Info" ftw! https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows (funny in one example they say a folder "Dr. Who (2005)" will work, I used "Doctor Who (2005)" with no problems, curious if both work i.e. TheTVDB.com aliases one to the other) (EDIT: unlikely, search on TheTVDB.com comes up empty ... then again maybe the  author of the guide webpage is French? http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=78804&lid=17 )
