There's daily backups again as well as I copy the current map data right before an update /just in case/.

I upgraded Overviewer and some things related to signs changed. I probably didn't properly change the config. I'll look into it soon.

Let us know when you upgrade to 1.3.2, please.  I had the newer client but rolled it back with MCNostalgia.

Stewie used to run a 1.2.5 server a couple of months ago.  It ate up a lot of memory and got laggy pretty quick.  His new server runs 1.3.1 and is pretty smooth.  He was playing on it during the weekend and found the server to be a bit laggy, so checked memory usage - that's when he noticed he had the Minecraft server, Minecraft client, and Skyrim all running at the same time.  On a laptop.  On wifi.  He would not have been able to run Skyrim at the same time as the Minecraft server back in 1.2.5.  I guess those performance improvements really are working.

I upgraded and logged in yesterday and didn't notice any issues?

I've upgraded to 1.3.2 and everything seems to be working.  Except Zombe's Mod Pack hasn't been updated yet, which kinda sucks - I frequently use the Safe mod to show where mobs can spawn (that way I don't have to do the math in my head).  This might even make me downgrade! (using MCNostalgia).

So enchanting in 1.3.x is much, much better.  In the span of 2 hours and 15 minutes, I went from level 0 to level 30 five times, and enchanted five items:

- diamond pickaxe with Efficiency IV, Unbreaking III, Fortune III
- diamond shovel with Unbreaking III, Silk Touch I
- diamond axe with Unbreaking III, Efficiency IV
- diamond sword with Sharpness III
- diamond pickaxe with Unbreaking III, Efficiency IV, Silk Touch I

So all but one had multiple enchantments, and most enchantments were at the highest power they could be.  All that in less time than it used to take to enchant one item at top level!

I'm especially happy about that first pickaxe as I'd lost one just like it yesterday when I lent it to my daughter, went mining with her, and then accidentally mined a block out from under her causing her to fall into a lava lake!

I was just getting some iron that was on the floor of our tunnel and she wasn't standing on it when I began to mine, but just as I was mining she jumped over and then the block broke :(

I didn't dig straight down under me, and I didn't dig straight down under the person with me, so I didn't do that.  Unless you think digging two blocks over and one block down (that's a thirty degree down angle from horizontal) should never be done, in which case, how the hell do you ever make a mine?

The trouble was her jumping on the block just before it took its last damage, and me not reacting quick enough on the mouse release / mouse direction change (I tried both at the same time).

What happened to my little summer cabin? :( http://mc.tomasu.org/#/132/64/199/-1/0/0

Good lord.

Guys, I really think it's time to move to a whitelist.

Maybe it was just server glitching or something to do with the map rollback (to Aug 2) but I really think we are starting to get unwanted visitors.

I'll take a look at the backups tonight. See when the cabin disappeared. I'll probably move to a white list then.

I hadn't seen your summer cabin when it was still there (you need to advertise your builds more :) ). I think it's just server-upgrade-glitching, because if it was griefers, why wouldn't they take out the chapel twenty blocks away, or interfere with the railroad just over from that?

Tom, can you let us know how far back you have to roll the backups for the cabin to reappear?  If it's far enough back that my plane disappears, I would rather just get my clan to help rebuild the cabin (would take way less time, I'm sure).

If he built it after the upgrade, it won't be there at all. Much like Mr. A's ship.

I'm confused...  I built (well, finished) my airplane after the upgrade, didn't I?  What exactly is the timeline of upgrades / rollbacks?

I'm not entirely certain. I've just been assuming the backups broke right around the same time as the upgrade happen. It might have been a bit after. All I know is that when I tested what backups I did have, all of Mr.A's ship yard was gone. But that was built pretty close to the rollback.

Right, then you rolled back, then I finished my plane?  You're not going back to before the rollback, are you?

I don't intend on doing any restores/rollbacks any time soon at this point. I think too much has happened recently. :(

There is a possibility of me copy and pasting the cabin back in, If I can find it in a backup.

Ah, that's a much more pleasant solution.  And Aethun, if he can't fix it and you need some help rebuilding just let us know.

Anyway, if it's so easy to influence douchebags online to get them to play nice, why are we moving to a whitelist on our minecraft server?  In my case, I'm requesting it because I know it's not easy to make people act decent and civil when online unless you can show there's a clear consequence to not acting decent and civil, and it's easier to just not allow people on until someone vouches for them.

A bit offtopic, but I noticed the problems first after some of your brood came on. Maybe one of their friends mentioned the server to someone?

Better to ask and answer that here, I think :)

It's entirely possible that friends of friends have mentioned the server.  You're welcome to publish unknown usernames and I'll ask them to ask their friends.  My first thought at seeing where that cabin used to be was that there were some explosions there.  That made me think of my youngest who likes to blow things up, but he doesn't know how to make TNT (nor has the ingredients), and he's been talked to lots of times about leaving other people's stuff alone.  Maybe a bunch of creepers blew up around him, but I figure the explosion holes would be farther apart then as he still runs away from creepers (don't we all?  poor creepers).

My first thought was maybe creeper damage but it doesn't explain the intact cobble noob tower, but then again it almost looks like a natural hole partially filled with dirt?

Not sure, either it was rolled back, blown up or creepered to death.

It was one of the first things I built. Don't bother though, it was @%&#. The hole was filled with a lot of water that I removed. The destruction looks jarring though (and very extensive for it just to be creepers), but it's not that important.

Ok, tonight I hope to make the server whitelisted.

Ok, I'm probably going to be installing bukkit and at least the whitelist-message mod, and I don' think its a good idea to use the beta release of bukkit for 1.3.2, so I'll be sticking with 1.3.1 for now. I hope that's not a huge issue. FYI, the server hasn't been updated to 1.3.2 yet, so there shouldn't be any serious issues, at least more than there are now. If anyone needs the 1.3.1 jar, I'll attempt to find it for them if they cant find it.

Heyoh, I've migrated to the bukkit based set up. Please let me know if anything is broken. I kept the original setup around, so if anything is broken, we can just move back.

The world looks good, everything works, nothing (additional) is broken.

The only thing I noticed is that (at least for me) custom skins don't appear to be loading.

I'll take a look. Might just be the skin server being stupid.

I don't know what's causing it. there's no messages in the console.

It appears it has nothing to do with the hosted server at all. At least the bukkit forums lead me to believe that it has nothing to do with bukkit or the standard mc server. So it might just be that the mc skin server is down. It is a holiday after all.

Looks good, except it says I've only been on for 1 minute so far (OnTime plugin).  Did all our times reset?  Will I finally have a chance to challenge Lenny for the #1 online spot?

According to the plugin yes. But not the logs. The plugin has its own database, that I could probably change to include prior times.
