Title: Caffeination Location? (coffee, tea, etc)

I am in a state of superposition between Starbucks, Tim Hortons and brewing my own, what about you? Currently I visit Starbucks more than anything else...

Starbucks, but only cause it is closer to the office than Tims.  I prefer Tims over Starbucks.

Really? Tim's is okay but it's main feature is the cheapness, their coffee is kinda like candy water almost haha

that last option re. High On Life, it does not mention COLD caffeinated drinks  ???

I don't drink coffee, I rarely drink tea, but for months I am "on" caffeine via pepsi barqs drpepper etc. then for months I am "off".

So I guess there's no real location, just as there is no consistency.

but if OP reason is for advice, I have heard nothing but bad things about Starbucks PRICING, plus they are not as Canadian as Timmy's so imo I would say it's an easy choice of the two. But brewing at home = the cheapest option of all. Plus you have control of the quality, as you try out different brands. Then again maybe I have no idea since I don't actual drink/purchase coffee at all. GL sir!

Coke Zero, these days.  Doesn't taste very good when hot.

The wife has a Tassimo that she uses to make her own.  The inserts are 75 cents, and you get one cup out of an insert.  That's still half the price of a Timmy's and one-fifth (!) the price of a Starbucks.

That's bang-on, Darren.  It's funny, the idea that you can make a $4 Starbucks for $0.75...  Supposedly the exact same flavour, too.

I think it's good to remember that just plain coffee isn't exactly bank-breaking at Starbucks, what you pay for is the preparation and the ingredients.

I've yet to work in an office that had:
-Good coffee / tea
-A good (AND regularly cleaned) machine
-Array of fresh toppings (at best, a small carton of milk and packets of sugar)

Even at home while I have a decent array of coffee, a milk frother and a good press, I don't always have toppings though.

So while yes, if I had all the ingredients to make a grande mocha it would probably be cheaper but very often I don't (moreso at work than at home) so I don't think the idea is that far out there

:)

Oddly enough I made a grande mocha today as I had chocolate sauce, milk and of course house blend at hand (I even played funky music while I made it and put it in my Starbucks cup LOL).

I've recently mostly switched to tea from cola. Lots cheaper, and a lot healthier. Went from drinking 1L or more of pop a day, to 1-2 cups of tea.

I must say, Stash tea is darned good.

I'm glad to hear that, I'm almost 100% off pop now. I have one coffee or one-to-two cups of tea a day, the rest is water. A six pack of beer will last two weeks now, and I'll only have about 2-4 oz of hard liquor a month (if at all). I find myself drinking a lot more fruit juices though, which isn't good considering how much sugar is in some of them (orange and apple juice, I'm lookin' at you). I like cranberry juice as well but I have to be careful with that as I'm already on a pretty heavy diuretic. I'm also drinking a lot more milk, not sure why but I've had the urge for the last few months... must be something in there my body wants/needs.

Anyway, water is the best though, I can't get enough of it!

I voted Starbucks but that is a treat not an every day thing. I have had to massively cut my caffeine intake due to on going sleep issues. I still drink 2-4 (8oz) coffee at work in the mornings at work but have trained my self away from cola noon on.. Switched to Ginger-ale / root-beer for now, until I can cut out the sugar as well. Note that Bargs root-beer has caffeine in it, so I check closely now.

Generally not a Root Beer guy but that is good to know!

Also, congrats on actively reducing caffeine and sugar! Not an easy things to kick.

I have done it for a stretch before, however you really notice the absence at first if you have been consuming a lot.

I'll say! Last year when I was having panic attacks I started linking the coffee "buzz" with the onset of an attack, so I kicked it and MAN I was Captain Grumpy in a big way also I was getting wicked bad headaches after. I've kicked caffeine before but I was never as bad as in 2010.

Being able to drink coffee and not take a xanax after was a big step for me, but I've been careful not to jump back into those old habits of 3-4 coffees a day. I make a conscious effort to only drink one (at max two) caffeinated beverages a day (or no more than 16 oz).

"Barq's Has Bite" and all that, eh?  I think they're the only mainstream root beer that has caffeine added, though.

holy crap, I knew I recognized the guy from the pilot episode of Cavemen*...

*ps: not joking, that was actually a way-too-funny-for-its-time show. Bad idea, extremely well executed. Nick Kroll especially nailed it as the sarcastic lazy ass, worth watching if you can find all the episodes (the pilot sucked, later episode were great satire, often of sitcom conventions themselves, sorta like Arrested Development. Again, not joking. You probably recognize Mr. Kroll -- http://www.nickkroll.com/post/242194177/i-was-on-a-show-called-cavemen

Old thread alert!

Anyway, I recently got into using the Starbucks phone app where you can pre-load it like a card and just scan it when you through the till.

The interesting effect it's had for me IMO is that I'm much more aware of how easy it is to spend upwards of $10 a visit, maybe not the intended outcome but still, interesting information to have in your hand.

Ya if you use the 'Manual' reload option you quickly realize how damn expensive it is.

For just a regular medium roast it's not as bad. It's when you enter flavor county that it starts adding up

imo it is kinda the new way of the future because of how profitable it must be for megacorps whose profit margin keeps shrinking.

When you take out cash you actually pay attention to its departure piece by piece, and during a purchase you consider its cost vs value since you physical lose something in exchange for the goods. With plastic, not so much, it's just confirming a numeric amount, it's like an idea. With "preloaded" cards and digital balances like this new stuff it's plastic to the extreme, it's even easier for companies to gouge you for extra stuff (or just over-priced stuff) that you don't even realize/notice is ridic and adds up quickly, because the payment is all like all ethereal.

I don't know about that, I mean how many of us have jars of change with unknown amounts stored within?

All I know is it beats having yet another card in my wallet
