Title: Learning Unity - A good beginner playlist
Post by: Mr. Analog on July 22, 2018, 02:36:37 PM
So I started watching this because it's been on my mind for ages, I'm also thinking about starting a little project with some people I know for funzies. The example in the first set of videos you can do in an afternoon, it's pretty obvious how things work I was surprised it's so accessible (either that or the guy who's teaching it makes it easy to wrap my brain around)

Yeah I've heard Unity is very accessible and user friendly.

Same here, it seems particularly popular for iOS / Android games these days.

Unreal also has a really good rep for better level building tools, but similarly easy development and they have opened up their licensing over the last few years.

I'm actually really hype about starting this little project. I also now know why a lot of devs go 3D vs 2D (waaaaaaaaaay less work)

3D is less work than 2D?  Really?  I would have expected that opposite...

You have to draw a sprite for every frame of animation. There are plenty of prefab assets on Unity you can use but if you are making something from scratch it can be a real chore.

I'm actually in the process of designing a 1v1 fight game and the first challenge is designing one character I can use. I have a tool for rigging animation for sprites called Spriter which is going to help but first I gotta design a character (not as easy as it sounds)

For 3D you get your object and assign physics properties and behaviors to it and you're done.

Your mention of Spriter reminded me of a certain Bundle I purchased many moons ago.

...And of how I have done nothing with that and all the other apps/tools that came with it.

Lazy? Or just not motivated? Hmmm...

Looking forward to playtesting your button masher maybe.

I might try making a simple 3D game first just to get a feel for it but yeah, once I get the game going I'll make sure to link the project page

I've heard unity is getting a new physics tool, so some aspects will be easier and more complete there than in the past.

I've thought about playing with Unity as well. Just time is a thing.. And sometimes when I do have the time to play with stuff, I have other ideas. I tend to be focused on a single thing at a time, at least until I need something for that thing... heh. SQUIRREL

SAME.

Life on the Spectrum is a long trail of half-finished deep-involvement projects.

Apparently in 6 minutes (or actually 12) you make a quick little Augmented Reality app in Unity3D.

Because that's how Darren watches ALL YouTube; maximum completion and minimum comprehension  (j/k)

The latter is kinda true LOL though not my intent but kinda the result/reality so :UnicodeShrug:

Plus I think my dopamine cycle needs that faster rate of data intake or I fall asleep like during the last couple of Star Wars viewing attempts ;)

[/derail] so how soon after fraga you figure you gonna go ahead and ummm hand in your Unity TPS reports? :excited:

Well I had kinda a rough time at the end (went to the hospital) so I dunno, I'm hoping I get my mojo back soon but right now I'm in a weird place mentally.

Sticking to art for now

Whatever CREATE-ive work you can enjoy, my friend... that's where meaningful time is spent, doesn't matter if it's code or construction paper or your fancy drawrings :) #jelly

This robut's got swagger!

apparently the source of that was a UNITY tech demo video (short film), hence my posting it here.
https://twitter.com/joimonki/status/1031459704634044416 mentioned it

"ADAM" is the name of the 3-part video short** -- and our swaggerbot IS NOT ALONE! #NightmareFuel

but the video clip in the tweet = standalone, from https://www.instagram.com/p/Bmih08GFwpN via https://www.reddit.com/r/Ice_Poseidon/comments/97rv9t/the_robot_we_expected/
