If implemented.. however to be honest EVERYTHING in this experimental build sounds interesting. The changes to world depth and height as well as ore generation should have substantial impact on gameplay.

some 1.18 update info as well
Looks like a map / world reset will be worth it for 1.18. While it is compatible and you can explore new blocks it seems like a fresh start would be nice.
As if I already wasn't hyped for this!! Can't wait!!!
Still want to start clean, but this is what blending looks like so far.
As noted in the video, it could be better. But yeah, fresh new world! Hopefully by the holidays
I started a singleplayer world in 1.17, I don't like how much deepslate there is now at y=10. It's a lot more work to dig up a bunch of cobblestone, cook it back into smooth stone, and make everything pretty the way I'm used to. Also, deepslate just takes so much longer to dig through than smooth stone / cobblestone.

Do you mean 1.17 or 1.18.. As 1.18 adds the massive amount of extra world depth and different distributions.. I believe the deep slate doesn't appear in 1.18 till closer to where bedrock used to appear.
Based on the snapshot videos it seemed like a lot of distributions where still being played with.
Yeah, I'm in 1.17.1 for sure, there's deepslate happening between y=0 and y=16. I'm digging my usual mine at y=10 because that's where the diamonds are, so I'm right in the middle of that.
I'm worried about getting enough cobblestone for my builds given that I also mine out at roughly the same level.
I mean I should probably be digging around at all levels but I am Le Tired...

Cobblestone is the most plentiful resource in the game still, don't think that will be an issue but you should find MANY more caves.
Worst case Cobblestone generators where still easy to build and still worked in the latest versions.

I get about a day, but I run a lot of apps that suck up power like it's candy (I guess I should uninstall MLB now that the season is over...). Also I'm constantly checking discord / tumblr / forums, that sucks juice too.
Yesterday I was too busy coding / attending Microsoft Ignite to really be on my phone and it was 61% at 9 PM when I plugged it back in. So in theory -if I don't use my device for what it's for- I get great battery life!

There is a fair bit changed in this release. I will look at updating the existing server to it but I think the plan should be for us to do a fresh start.
Not sure what mods or tools will be supported the world files have had some substantial changes and it jumps to a much more current version of java.

I'm sure we can all survive playing vanilla for a bit while everything else catches up.
+1 Lenny. I've been waiting a long damn time for the map to get wiped and restarted, lets just do that. We need a good seed, though. What do we want spawn to start in? I prefer plains for a spawn point, and I also like spawn to be reset to 0,0 if possible. Anyone else have any other preferences?
Plains are always welcome. I've been dying to get my Minecraft on so yeah vanilla sounds good to me. Can't wait to play with the new caves n @%

At this point I am somewhat ANTI water and jungle.. LOL but there are some good resources in oceans so can't exclude them.
Do we want to craft a very visible, creative mode style spawn this time? Maybe something simple or keep the world as pure survival as possible..
I was thinking something like just paving the spawn area square and lighting it up or something. Our last spawn was in the middle of a jungle and kind of sucked if you ever got respawned there even with how much we developed around that area.
I could be down for that. Though there's something to be said about building a safe spot in SMP. A team effort!

Hmm forgot that mob light level spawning got a lot easier this update so YA maybe just leave it all creative, but I do want to mark it out this time.
Could be fun as a group activity!

I like the idea of us building up spawn as we go, maybe start it as a 100x100 area with a fence around, all lit up.
Are you suggesting we start the server, switch to Creative mode and build it up, or never switch to Creative and build it all purely in Survival? I like purely in Survival, for bragging rights.
We should use chunkbase.com/apps/biome-finder to pick a decent spawn, and I'd love to see the actual spawn point set to exactly 0,0. Cuz I love geometrics.
And maybe we should plan a specific date/time to do this so we can all join in for the initial spawn build?

I was just considering loading the map up in creative myself, marking out the TRUE spawn area (paving or outlining it) and lighting it, then switching it back to survival
However we can instead we could keep it 100% survival.
If we want to make SPAWN a community site I suggest we agree in advance how we want that to look.. Maybe with a simple set of rules like making PLOTS right away and a 3 WIDE packed path system out X blocks to make spawn town.. Then we could claim the PLOTS one at a time and build useful shops and stuff for shared resources going forward.. NO ONE can build their HOME in that area but there might be a community in we all build to start and so there is always a sleeping / shelter spot if you DIE and get forced back to the original spawn.
I've always had fun setting up spawn in SMP there's a fun challenge to it especially when there are a bunch of players doing it.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Yeah. Now to find a decent spawn. Plains of some sort (regular, sunflower, meadow?), ocean not too far away (300 blocks or less, maybe?), doesn't really matter about the rest, I'd say? We'll find mountains where we find them, same with desert and savannah, and all that other jazz.

Though like many shaders it makes underground / the Nether much darker and moody (on the upshot if you are holding a torch you get light around you)
Quote from: LennyLen on November 26, 2021, 03:13:26 AMHow about the idea of a transport hub right at the centre of the spawn point?
Yes, this please!! One of the things I didn't like about our current world was the diaspora and the rather difficult to follow Nether network, we were all so spread out it was very challenging to see everyone's builds. I spent the most time around Lazybone's place because it was close to mine.
I like the idea of transport hubs but I also hate the idea of maintaining them.
Anyone found any interesting transport related data packs? Not sure anyone was using the ones I added before.
I'd love to see the a teleportal system set up, yeah. Not sure if I want it right at 0:0, I'm kinda envisioning a little flat area, maybe 7x7 or 9x9 centered on 0:0 with a nice little pattern underfoot, like a central plaza, and with spawn set to 0:0. We could have the teleportal hub building directly north from the plaza?
And I'm envisioning the teleportal hubs that we had two and three maps ago, where there's multiple stations with a button each, you walk up and click the button and you're teleported right to wherever, and the wherever teleports you right back to the individual station. We made them kinda look like red brick mushrooms, to hide the command block.

I think most transport-related data packs are for individuals to set their own teleport spots. The transport hubs are nice because you don't have to know where someone else's base is, you can just go to central station and find the teleporter for their base and go there.
I'd love to build a portal station again with command blocks!
That was super fun

Not that surprising I seem to recall most of the final .0 releases getting patched soon after launch for many things.
So this is supposed to be released tomorrow, do we want to set a date and time for when we restart the map, so that we can all log on at the same time?
Also, will we be setting it to Normal or Easy? (I prefer the latter, dunno if people like more deadly minecrafting, I don't)
Also also, will we start with mobGriefing=false?
Personally creeper explosions specifically are the only thing I don't like.. Maybe ender men block picking, some farms etc depend on all the normal mob game mechanics working. (you specifically need at least normal to get zombie villagers https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Difficulty However Vindicators can break doors. Which is possibly concerning , villagers can't farm with mobGriefing=false)
1. For me I need to confirm my Docker container system supports it fully with some testing (it should it looks like they have updated it for the snapshots)
2. We have a lot of nice data packs from Vanilla tweaks like creeper nerfing and a few others that may or may not update on official release.
3. We need to decide on a seed.... Or I could just surprise you
4. I will be re-setting the whitelist to start clean.. Not sure how that impacts things with the new Microsoft accounts.. We might need to be sure everyone has converted there majong account to an MS sign in.
5. I think I will remove the current Pinned server status thread and post a new clean one.
6. Probably not going up tomorrow as I will have things to do in the evening.
7. Sounds like everyone would like a structured SPAWN area but still in survival mode
8. We will probably not have over viewer.
Reasonable that we could get this going by the weekend, or late in the week if there are no hold ups.
I didn't know that about zombie villagers and Normal difficulty. Alright, Normal's fine by me then. Creeper nerfing is all that's really required, I just hate having to fill holes in the countryside. Whitelist, hmm, well I'm on an MS account already. No overviewer? :( Like at all ever, or just until overviewer catches up to 1.18?
Quote from: Thorin on November 29, 2021, 01:58:16 PMLike at all ever, or just until overviewer catches up to 1.18?
There is a pull request on GitHub (https://github.com/overviewer/Minecraft-Overviewer/issues/1982) that might add partial support to OV, but my expectation with OV is that it will be missing lots of stuff initially if it works at all. There isn't much in terms of clear public roadmap / timeline in OV development, you are basically just recommended to run the latest snapshot constantly if you are running current versions of Minecraft..
I'm looking forward to this! Starting on the weekend would be perfect

I have loaded this seed and I have cleared a 16x16 area around the world spawn in survival mode.. needed to just chill. Don't care if we chose a different seed still .
Currently have only myself in the OP and whitelist as I have reset everything.

Where the world generated spawn is? It is on a slop and has a fairly large drop off after it. I can use admin commands and MOVE spawn if we wanted however I do like keeping things as default as possible.
I was trying to stay with defaults IE 16x16 spawn area and 16x16 spawn protection (non OPs can't alter blocks there) However you can move the location and you can turn off spawn protection.. The previous server had so many OPs nearly everyone playing was one lol. Open to suggestions there however I was thinking of locking it way down. All OPs last time also had FULL permission level 4 rights which included the ability to halt the server.
Feel free to load up -4993896090608759951 in a local 1.18 game and take a look.. Nothing is set in stone and resetting the world is really easy at this point.
Good news is that I had no problems getting the base server or vanilla tweaks datapacks loaded so I am fairly good to go other than the whitelist and op list clean up.. OV will just have to wait.. I will also check if my automated backup job ran correctly last night with all the changes.

Where is your storage area, I couldn't find it last time I was there for diorite (I found enough myself and got all the slabs I needed for my big factory thing so it's all good)
Turns out my code problem was saving the precision, the algorithm works perfectly!
Basically Entity Framework sets a default precision for props of type decimal unless you go out of your way to set the precision in the DB context. EF was cutting off most of my decimal places when saving which lead to whack coordinates.
So I don't know when they added this, but apparently furnaces with hoppers attached remember how much has been smelted and keeps track of the xp, and then the next player to manually remove an item gets all of the stored-up xp.
And here I was hand-smelting because I thought the xp would be lost!

O man if that is true then I should get on to making my auto smelter.
Whhhhhat!! This is awesome news!

Yeah, so set up auto-smelters to do a bunch of stacks of stuff, then cook one item manually in the furnace and remove it, and you'll get a swarm of xp orbs around you. Xisuma showed back in 1.13 that if you smelt 100,000 stacks of iron ore, the resulting xp orb swarm lags the server down to 1fps, and you go skyrocketing through the levels (his levels were still rapidly increasing at 298).
I'm just not sure how you'd do make it so one or more smelted items are left behind in the furnace for you to take out.
I tried this yesterday and it works! I gained 10 levels in one go

Quick search shows that a comparator can be used but for it to work the fuel level needs to be known. Also that would be hard to fit into a tiled design.

I temporarily disconnected my hopper and whammo! Tons o' levels!
I made an automated super-smelter to smelter items quickly, and you can use the same method (disconnect hopper, then smelt an item by hand), but you need to use it on every furnace in the array to get all the xp.

There are two problems with cave rendering in Overviewer with 1.18.
1. There is A LOT of natural spawning light sources in the new generation, it used to be just be lava. Now torches, moss, glow berries and a few other things emit light and spoil what is everywhere in every chunk.
2. Overviewer can't render negative -y values or the extra hight values in 1.18.. The hight isn't as much of an issue as it is rare for any mountain to be that high or for players to build there, but the negative depth cuts off the caves really early.
I have been holding off enabling that render for those reasons.. I had it on for a short time but it looked terrible.
Oh well. It would be nice, but it's not super important.
I built a smokestack for my factory building, I think it looks pretty good
Now I have to figure out what to build next. Maybe a Motel?

How did you get enough string for all that scaffolding you have? I'm after quite a lot.

Got caught out at night with spiders hunting me, like a lot of times. I gathered it the hard way. One spider makes zero to twelve scaffolding (0-2 strings dropped, each string makes 6 scaffolding), I had a lot of nights. A lot. I had 109 strings when I made my scaffolding, and still have a few left, I think. I have, like, 9 stacks of scaffolding or something crazy.
You could also find an abandoned mineshaft and chop all the cobwebs down with a sword, each cobweb gives a string.
I killed a ton of spiders and only had 2 pieces of string drop, so I figured they must have lowered the drop rate. I guess I was just very, very unlucky.
I guess I'll keep trying that method and see if the luck improves as I don't think I've found any mineshafts yet.
There's a big mineshaft in my old iron mine, I plan on going down there to get chains n' stuff because they're just so expensive and I want to do some decorating. If I find string I'll save it for you
Thanks
