omg, could this actually be a "reboot" of an 80s classic that is BETTER?

Seriously looks ass-kicking; an amazing cast, and it seems like they might have done a good job of modernification, without turning into accidental self-parody... Balancing action and effects with a could-be-decent story #fingersCrossed

(even ED-209 might not be as laughably vulnerable , more dextrous looking imo)

I'm surprised by two things from this http://youtu.be/INmtQXUXez8

1. The new depth they are giving the character

2. The fact that the depth was conveyed in a trailer

I am genuinely interested in seeing this.

I am too. It looks great! I'm somewhat surprised they decided to go with a self aware robo-cop. The original was pretty much an automaton.
<Zapata Prime> I smell Stanley... And he smells good!!!

Tom

Also I wonder if its based in detroit? :DD it really did go bankrupt...

The trailer makes it clear -- again, a nice surprise! -- that the "cop" is pretty much immobile and lacking in "free will" buried within the "robo" ... until somehow his humanatee is able to regain control over his robofied body parts. Coolness and crying ensues.

PS: Gary Oldman better watch his back; Jones is gonna come looking for him...

Yeah, but hes far more human than the original from what I saw. personality seemed to be somewhat intact.

speaking of "intact"... only thing that kinda stands out imo as "meh" from the trailer:
Robo's face is undamaged

edit: although it's actually explainable with current technology! so idk...

Yeah, I saw the helmet come down and thought two things: I AM THE LAW! and/or Irn Man

Also yeah, they can film in a post apocalyptic version of Detroit (aka ... regular Detroit)

One easy way to guarantee an increase* in the Cool Level by at least 3 points: a cameo by a certain actor whose voice is extremely cool and instantly recognizable. Probably as a disagreeable bureacrat or military general or something.

*LOL, right after posting the above, I found THIS on Tropes. Geez, it has a name? Or... what's the term for "something enters existent reality as soon you think of it"? #freaky

So did anyone end up seeing this? In your opinion, please share -- was it worthy of 90 minutes of viewing, or should it be under arrest?

I did not see it after a bunch of bad reviews/opinions and not actually caring that much. :o  probably eventually will watch it, but its a "when i get around to it" kind of thing.

If the original didn't exist it would have been okay

But the original exists and is WAY more:
-Interesting
-Violent
-Social commentary (!!)

I figured.

Just like "Dredd" (starring That Actor Who Channelled Deforest Kelley In The New Star Trek) -- I had virtually no interest in seeing it leading up to its release, did not even both to watch a trailer.

Then on Netflix earlier this month I watched it and HOLY CRAP nice to see that property get a "Hard R" treatment!  8)  Was a pleasant surprise; at times cheesy and scenery-chewing and over-the-top (but not in a safe harmless Stallone kind of way) ... reviewers* be damned I found myself grinning a lot, and of course also quite a few cringe moments too. Overall gotta say it delivered.

*http://www.metacritic.com/movie/dredd from the CRITICS the reviews = low but from USERS/AUDIENCE = high!

DREDD is the Judge Dredd movie we SHOULD have had, don't confuse that with the new Robocop echh
