Perfect timing in the edits -- don't try this at home kids ;)

Funny, but of course not as classic as the Family Guy * bit (where Booth repeatedly failing to assassinate Lincoln but Mentos saves the day).

Of course, I also had to check YouTube...

Holy Crap lois, chemistry is fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNgl6z5Z7k4 :o :o  8)

* There is one site I found with a whole buncha video clips from FG; maybe the Mentos bit is in there:

Mentos + Diet Coke = pretty cool (I've done it, my kids had a laugh).

But apparently now there's a

NEW EXTREME WAY To Do the Diet Coke Mentos Thing! (no Mentos required, I think... :) )

More (and better!) Mentos fun!

The Extreme Diet Coke & Mentos Experiments:

http://eepybird.com/

What happens when you combine 200 liters of Diet Coke and over 500 Mentos mints? It's amazing and completely insane.

The first part of this video demonstrates a simple geyser, and the second part shows just how extreme it can get. Over one hundred jets of soda fly into the air in less than three minutes.

It's a hysterical and spectacular mint-powered version of the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas, brought to you by the mad scientists at EepyBird.com.

How To Make a Mentos Coke Rocket ... step by easy step (seriously! not even Gilligan could f- this one up)

see also their video page 8)

Kids create the darnedest... Coke/Mentos weaponry

David Letterman's "Stupid Human Tricks", remember that? Apparently recently Dave had a "cola theme" night. ;D (see http://www.eepybird.com/ , http://revver.com/user/EepyBird/ )

(note: The EepyBird.com guys -- aka "Bellagio Fountains" -- apparently think they're funny (and do that kinda stuff for a living i.e. make people laugh)

eeeYIKES! There's an "activist" against any new trend...

"SaveMentosNow.com believes in the freshmaker's freedom and right to fulfil its destiny and has been working since July 22nd 2006 in order to spread the word and stop the hectic, careless and brutal experimentation." (... compleat with a cheeky FAQ :) )

Sorry, that IMDB discussion is mainly focused on the attractive redhead Kari, and her FHM photo shoot (white lab coat, red bra...) so not sure if it's worth getting yourself an IMDB account to read it ;) Although then you could participate in flame wars with movie lovers/haters just like me ;D

Oh, and FYI: from the above thread, here's just a taste of what you're missing...

Just caught the photoshoot of Kari in the Cola and Mentos myth. She's sportin' a sexy red bra and white lab coat. (magically grows anime fangs) AAAAARRRRRROOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Hubba-hubba!

Yep, and it's a sad, sad day for smart women everywhere. Because, you know, in order to justify having a brain, she obviously needs to make up for it by also being HOT. Are you kidding me?

by -  Orangejuggler  (Thu Aug 10 2006 09:04:42 )
If she want's to be a slut on her own, well whatever. I would think it would cause her to get in trouble with Discovery, since Mythbusters IS a 'kid friendly' show at least a little bit, and parents would be pretty pissed off if their kids found 'porn' of a seemingly respectable host for a TV show that actually TAUGHT kids stuff (I know it's not porn, but to a 10 year old boy, I think it could be considered as such)

by -  socialoutcast16  (Sat Aug 12 2006 20:39:36 )
Are you kidding me? Did you ever think that you and her have different ideas as to what's acceptable and what's whorish?

She got dressed up and looked pretty in a magazine while doing science experiments. She wasn't *beep* a donkey on the cover of Playboy.

Grow up. For real. And quit judging everyone else by your own damned sense of standards.

...

Eh... she's really smart... but that seemed kinda unneccesary.

So smart girls can't dress up and look sexy?

- - -

[and so on...] ;D

(average age of IMDB posters: somewhere between 11.5 and 12 ;) )

btw, disclosure: I basically agree with "mariceinstein":
Quote
"Why can't you just be liked for being smart and funny rather than being sexy?"
Why not all three? Why is being sexy suddenly something a woman should be ashamed of? Sure it's not as important as being brainy, but why should sexiness be considered a negative quality?
It's one thing to set standards for yourself; it's another thing to for you or anyone to expect everyone else (in this case, Kari) to live by them. Labeling someone a 'whore' because they don't meet those 'righteous' standards makes one a judgmental arse.

PS: It was really nice to see how the Mythbusters did such an AWESOME job, scientifically investigating the cause of the reaction (although they really should have tried cutting up and/or grinding the candy-flavoured Mentos to test their "microscopic moonlike pits" theory). Here's "part 2" of that video (where they try to make Mentos-DietCoke ROCKETS and whatnot 8)

PPS: in case you're curious (and you know who you are ;) ) here's a link to the FHM article... and as usual for FHM, it's very light-hearted, silly, pun-filled, perhaps even juvenile. Therefore enjoy. :)

EepyBird.com guys have done it again -- and WOW this time it's even better than their "Bellagio fountains" model!

The guys from EepyBird are back, with 251 bottles of Diet Coke and over 1,500 Mentos mints. In Experiment #137, they did a mint-powered version of the Bellagio fountains. This time, it's one giant Coke & Mentos chain reaction that has to be seen to be believed.
