I dunno if you follow hockey, but recently some people got together and actually paid for a billboard ad to entice Daryl Katz to fire Kevin Lowe:

Katz responded with an open letter to fans showing his undying support for Lowe. I don't know how I feel about all that, but it does show that Oilers fans are PASSIONATE about their team.
Well, today I came across a couple of alternate suggestions for wordings for said billboard:
Six Rings to rule them all, Six Rings to find them,
Six Rings to bring them all and in the darkness blind them
? Improved billboard slogan
That is the sound of ultimate suffering. My heart made that sound when the six-ringed man killed my franchise.
? Better billboard slogan
found in the Lowetide comments
it's been an exhausting week, plz explain the six rings...
edit: duh, 6 Stanley Cups, got it.
But why bring professional success into a volley of mockery? Plenty of managers/coaches of NHL teams that had a less successful career as a player than KL... Normally talking about 6 cups = a positive thing.
Such poor word choice, it blowes me away.
Most teams would have fired their "Kevin Lowes" by now after a turn over in Coaches and Staffing had already been tried as much as it has. That is why the target is at Lowes' backside. Does that help out DD?
Kevin Lowe, in a press conference in April of 2013, actually said the following:
"We have two types of fans: we have paying customers and we have people that watch the game that we still care about but certainly the people that go to the games and support we spend a lot of time talking to them, delivering our message."
So that sprang the meme that most of us are second-tier fans that don't matter to the Oilers. He then continued talking and said this:
"In terms of the group that messed things up, you?re talking about the group that had a team one period away from winning the Stanley Cup, and you know the cycle of that. You know that we chased a dream for a few years, for our fanbase, like a lot of teams do. And then at some point in that timeframe we realized that?s a bad plan and we made a change. We?re finishing year three of that plan. Are you saying to me you?re getting impatient after three years? And lastly I?ll say, there?s one other guy I believe in hockey today, that is still working in the game, that has won more Stanley Cups than me, so I think I know a little bit about winning if that?s ever a concern."
The bolded text was him raising his voice. He's been on six Stanley Cup winning teams, so he got the nickname Ol' Six Rings over on lowetide.com. So now when they want to say Kevin Lowe, they instead say Six Rings, because of his attitude about how since he was on winning teams (on which Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, and Anderson carried the heavy load) that he'll do just fine getting the Oilers to win. Oh, and they're having their worst season ever after he made that statement.
When you use the term Six Rings to refer to Kevin Lowe, you're actually showing your disgust for his cavalier attitude towards the team you cheer for, the Oilers.
Here's the full story to provide context for the things he said: http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/2013/04/15/john-mackinnon-puts-kevin-lowe-on-the-hot-seat/
