A whole lot of the "firsts" in the gaming industry, or even in the software business itself, came from his sharp mind and usually out of necessity, sorta like Newton coming up with differential calculus cuz he needed it.

Too bad the business is now so BIG that there's little risks being taken anymore... Which means less chance of a Carmack 2.0 showing up on the scene and causing a revolution to take place... Or maybe they show up periodically and get some incredible momentum startedbut then get cut down by The System (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz) :(

All the risk goes to independents, then is absorbed into the big guys if it gets popular enough
