In case you haven't heard yet. Levar Burton is doing a kickstarter to bring out a web based Reading Rainbow show and "supplemental materials". Apparently schools in need will also qualify for free access to the content.
I went for the $400 level. I'ma have me a cool voice mail message, and some swag.
Nice
They have already hit 1.5m!
I wonder if just for the lulz the "1 of 1" 10k pledge was a certain Community cast member...

I can't say I'm surprised, way to go!
I'm a little surprised they hit 1m in 12 hours. I knew they'd make it, but that quick? not so much.
I'm really glad they have though. reading == gud.

I'm not, it's a pop culture icon.
Imagine if Star Trek did a kickstarter, they'd have a billion dollars in a week

That would be a billion dollar idea...
Except a StarTrek spinoff was on indigogo or ks, and it didn't do all that well.

Non-canon Spinoff being the keyword.

Well it was being led by actual ST actors. I figure they'd keep it fairly close to the world. iirc it was supposed to be darkish like DS9.

Make that 1.9!
And apparently there's an update video he posted once they passed 1.0, a comment on Vulture (http://www.vulture.com/2014/05/levar-burton-kickstarter-reading-rainbow.html) said it is "pure unfiltered feels* for any kid who watched RR" (anyone here watch it?)
just watched it, it very much IS.

You're not human if you're not moved by his sincere, tear-filled words: "...we are literally changing the world (one children's book at a time)" (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/readingrainbow/bring-reading-rainbow-back-for-every-child-everywh/posts)
2.79 as of this moment.
It seems to be "plateauing" at "just" 3.4 now.
For now. I assume they'll get a big jump at the end as well. Also maybe when they add some new stuff.
The updated intro / theme:

Haha. I can do anything. :D
So I guess 5.4 million when it ended! (plus since they exceeded $5 million, add an extra $1 million from Seth MacFarlane! (https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/002/222/463/234ac9dffe9ea7184dc7a207b1a4bf39_large.gif))
And looks like Mr. Burton is using modern technology to helps childhood literacy:
