It's kind of like the Corner Gas funded project, it's a done deal, they met their goal and beyond and I had no idea about it at all

That's different though, the "funding" is not for the majority of the film production costs (that's covered by federal/provincial grants ** ) but rather for giving something to the masses to encourage ownership of the beloved product (and to discourage piracy).
