Title: Mirror's Edge Catalyst
Post by: Mr. Analog on June 10, 2015, 01:24:19 PM
It's looking more and more hopeful that this will be a release sooner than later

Box art revealed:

Sounds like it's going to be a re-telling of the original game but for sure it's not a sequel:

OK, time to post more stuff here

We know that the game will be and open world which I am very excited about BUT one of my BIGGEST COMPLAINTS about the original Mirror's Edge have been addressed:

Faith no longer uses guns, period.

One of the awkward things in the original game was that the design encouraged you to pick up guns and use them, you don't HAVE to but it makes some situations a lot easier. Now Faith will not use guns at all, she'll disarm an opponent and throw the gun away now. This was something that I felt was important to highlight because it just never felt right in the original game.

AT FIRST I was happy and then...

If it's strictly on Origin I'm not interested, period.

Sadly I actually installed Origin AND signed up to become a Frontrunner shortly after my post about it being Origin-only

The majority of us Frontrunners did not receive closed beta keys today, but I notice that a lot of YouTube celebrities / streamers got theirs (don't they get press betas?)

According to the Mirror's Edge twitter more should be sent out tomorrow to a select few (which is bollocks)

To twist the knife further they released codes on twitter today that were all used up less than 2 minutes after posting (likely sniped by bots). The wait for this game has been so long and the number of times it's been pushed back has moved my interest beyond anticipation to annoyance.

I'm not pre-ordering this unless there's a demo, the less money up front I can give to EA the better

I preordered it for Xbox one, and we don't get an option for beta access.

They were giving out keys on twitter so... there was the possibility to get a key for XBone / PS4

Also I forgot to mention but the release has been moved back (again), this time to June. They mentioned it just before the closed beta started, presumably to absorb feedback and fix a few things that showed up as problems.

From the beta test forums it sounds like the biggest complaint was either you could run it or you couldn't, so there's optimization left to do. Also some criticism with the user content (currently no way to disable). On PC you can't rebind controls.

The positive feedback was the open world and combat are really fun, and this is what people really wanted out of the game. It sounds like the main story might be a bit short.

I guess it depends on how much they sell it for and what kind of DRM they are going to have for it, I'll pick it up after I've destroyed myself on Overwatch / No Man's Sky / Fallout 4 DLC. I don't know what it's going to retail for but if it's more than $60 I'll wait for a sale :)

I still want to know if they fixed the social problems and framerate drops they had in the beta

Looks like a TV is coming: http://ca.ign.com/articles/2016/05/25/mirrors-edge-being-adapted-for-television

I've watched Angry Birds and thought it was well done.  Warcraft looks so good!  Waiting to see what Assassin's Creed looks like on the big screen, and waiting for scene release for Racket & Crank.

COD on the big screen will be very kewl I think if done well. Skylanders... well that's a kids show I would think.
