Title: The Expanse (new sci fi tv series) (or should I say new SyFy tv series)

...typical SyFy? Meaning it will get an initial run then get cancelled (at least it made it past the pilot!)

Maybe not! Since this is not a "SyFy Original" this time!

It "premieres" on December 14th, but they are making the first episode available now...

The reviews sound interesting

I finally started watching this show about a week ago.  I just couldn't put it down!  8 episodes in a row, finally went to bed about 4am.  I dunno if anyone else here has watched The Expanse, if not, I suggest you do if you like sci-fi-in-spaceships.  UN (runs Earth) vs Mars vs Outer Belt (centered around the asteroid belt and Ceres Station).  At the same time, it's a police drama (I think that's the right words to describe that?).  Decent acting, serious consideration given to the effects of living in hostile environments.

I've been watching since it was released.  Season 1 is a bit of a police drama, but Season 2 moves away and focuses more on the Space Politics and Sci-Fi Mystery.  It is very good as well.

Caution though, just like Game of Thrones, don't get too attached to characters as at any time any one can be killed.

Yeah, I fully expect people to keep dying in The Expanse.  I think the only thing that kinda bugs me is that they've just taken the tablets and smartphones we're all used to now and made them transparent, but still used in exactly the same way.  I mean, 200 years from now I hope we've evolved from swiping and double-tapping, right?

Season three of The Expanse has started now, and it's starting off strong. It is so much more than the police drama that it seemed to start as in season one. This is some excellent sci-fi, better than Altered Carbon in my mind.

I would agree about The Expanse, but I also think Altered Carbon stands well too.  Both great in my mind.

Agreed. More people need to get into The Expanse though, it's super good

The reason I like The Expanse better than Altered Carbon is because there's less hand-wavy bad-math things in the timeline.

The Expanse is mostly hard science sci-fi, and when it isn't, they've explained it in-universe.  The introduction to how the ships can so easily move back and forth between the planets at high G, and that the high G can easily kill you, I thought was fantastically done.  I also find the crew of the Rocinante Pinus Contorta is well-balanced, mostly self-serving, yet still have a streak of good in them.

Anyway, I'm glad it's back on.  Now I'm just waiting for Killjoys to start back up.
