...because our eyes (and bodies) are basically machines made of meat and other organic stuff, this tweetstorm really gets you thinking (and worrying?) about how the human visual system actually works. One of the replies about what pilots are trained to do when scanning the skies, wow, how do we get through a day with these crippled sensory inputs?

Cliffs: when ours eyes change focus side-to-side, there's a short period of time where OUR VISION STOPS WORKING (instead of being blurry), then when clarity returns our brain lies about space-time and continues on as usual. Roughly speaking. Also, most of us know about the blind spot in the back of the eyeball. But also there's very few color-producing parts of the eyeball, most of our peripheral vision isn't color but our brain fakes it.
So... yeah. Even 20/20 folks don't see as accurately as a low frame rate security camera, pretty much.
The brain is also good at pattern matching and estimating things, which is both a plus and minus and why prestidigitation even works. Sleight of hand hacks our brains and eyes to make impossible stuff seem possible.
Accidentally on topic kinda:
The 30 (29.97) FPS frame rate -- why that #? And other interesting (no, really!) factoids

^this "Knowing Better" video talks about the history of vudeo*, the Soap Opera Effect, 480 1080 4k, how our eyes work etc.
Discuss?
(PS: count the # of subtle "giggity"s)
