I knew about JAG only because I saw something interesting on The Memory Hole re. the spinoff series (never heard of it) called NCIS -
see here, disturbing read, seeing how blatantly the military etc. get involved in the free(ish) entertainment media... especially for us 24-addicts; I try not to wonder how much of the story details are gubmint-planted propaganda :( )
