Well, my $7 Cineplex Odeon/Galaxy tickets came in today. So does anyone want to go see Sin City tomorrow, or in the next while, for $7 a pop? I'd be willing to provide a ride for couple of people if need be. I wouldn't mind seeing it at one of the big theatres,(North Edmonton Cinemas, or South Edmonton Common) myself.
I really want to see this flick, I've never read the comic but the trailers and the nerd-feedback thus far has been good.
Showtimes are as follows, at Cineplex Odeon theatres.

Just was about to post a link to this fun-to-read review:

I talked to Mags and Melbosa in WoW tonight, and they said Monday would be good for them. Can you make it then, Mr. Analog?
That works out much better for me, gotta clean up here tomorrow after work.
Monday, I like it. A non-weekend works much better for me too. I'm interested in seeing it primarily for the visual aspect, in a way like those not interested in philosophy or dream theory wanted to see Waking Life. Also it's intriguing to see the end result knowing the technical history (a la Sky Captain)... I hope I'm not at a disadvantage not being aware of any of the storyline details in the 4 stories all included in this flick, but knowing in advance the gore level will be "Kill Bill"esque, that's all I need to know hopefully :)
Ok, now that we have a date, we need a time. Since Darren, Mags, and Melbosa are all on the south side, I'd be willing to drive Mr. Analog to and from South Edmonton Common. To refresh, the showtimes are as follows there.
South Edmonton Common
7:00PM 8:00PM 10:00PM 10:45PM
Well, I had to take the car to the shop today, since it seems to have sprung a rather bad oil leak. My mechanics not in today, and won't be able to look at it until Monday So if I don't have wheels, I won't be able to give Mr. Analog a ride to the south side and back, unless the cars ready by the evening on Monday. Melbosa may be able to give Mr. Analaog and I a ride down to the shop if the car's ready, or else Mr. Analog will have to ride with me on the dreaded number 8 bus to retrieve it. Just a heads up.
I could join you on the number 8, as long as your car is fixed when we get there lol (j/k) :)
I can provide transporation as well. Just make sure you all get a hold of me on my new cell number if you need to talk to me.
I have an all day meeting today, starting at 9:30 and finishing at 4:30, so I will be unavailable for most of the day. Addidionally, I don't think I'm going to be feeling much like doing anything tonight, but I will try to get on here after my meeting to figure out what, if anything, I'm doing tonight for sure.
Ust, if you want to come down this-a-way for lunch today I can give you your money at lunch. Leave a message at my work number (extension 224, as my cell phone is out of juice and at home today).
Well, my mechanic has one of those end of vacation illnesses, so he probably won't get to the car today. Sounds like Mr. Analog doesnt' want to go today anyways, but if I could hitch a ride to the southside with Melbosa, and maybe get dropped off by Southgate or Millgate afterwards, that'd be good. If Mr. Analog still wants to come and Melbosa is willing to give him a ride back to Clairview, I'll just hop the LRT home from there.
And don't worry about getting the money to me, Mr. Analog, until we get the monitor to your place and find out if it survived the trip intact :)
Sounds good, like I said before, I don't know how pooped I'm going to be after this marathon meetiing so we'll play it by ear for now...
K well each of you give me a dingle on the good old cell (with new number) at 4:30 and tell me where you gonna be and if you coming or not. Looks like with all the pickups and such, gonna be a 7:00pm showing.

Plugh, the #8 only goes so far... then at Lakewood or MillwoodsTown it's the 74 to South Common, be warned :P There's apparently some express bus, a new route through South Common but it might be Saturday only...
I'm saying this based on the likelihood of Broken Car not being transmogrified into Working Car. And Mr. A feeling up to coming - which I presume is a make-it-or-break-it for our plans..
D'oh, okay so through all this I presume it's still a go right? I feel like
Donny in The Big Lebowski sometimes :P ("Forget it, Donny, you're out of your element!" etc.)
I'm in... will be at South Commons by 6:30PM
6:30 I'll be there too - PS: it's totally gonna rock, it's almost at #100 in the
IMDB top 250!!! (Peter Jackson eat yer NZ heart out!) - heck even
Ubersnob Ebert likes it! (not to mention all the 100% ratings on
http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/sincity and
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sin_city/ )
Well, just got out of my meeting and my brain is mush, Have a good one tonight fellahs...
Curses, them brain-mushing brain-mushers! (aka management).
We'll miss ya buddy, hopefully it's "SO GOOD*" that one of us joins you for a re-viewing on Tues or Wed...
*Gadzooks, that Strongbad's
TGS is plentifully quotable...
Good? Bad? Ugly?
I thought it was good... not great but good. Just didn't have the *wow* feature I was hoping for.
I think Ustauk and DD really liked it though.
I thought it was a pretty good movie. Not the best I've seen but pretty good. Very stylish, and some of the dialogue reminded me of a fifthties movie, but that was appropriate given the source material's intentions.
So on par with say, Hellboy?

Sounds about right, I'd say.

I'd say Hellboy is a better movie in my books.
Can you really compare the two?
Quote from: "Bryan"Can you really compare the two?
They are both comic-to-film translations, so I hope so.
Quote from: "Bryan"Can you really compare the two?
Not directly, know, but I'd say I derived about even satisfaction from both.

As much as I guess you could compare Hellboy to a
REAL spawn movie, if they ever make one. Actually a Decent represtation of the Spawn comic in movie form would be a good movie to compare against Sin City, as they would be very similar in violence and graphic content, as well as confusing at times.
What you didn't like the original Spawn movie? It was great!
It wasn't bad (I even own it myself), but PG13 version Movie when the Comic is clearly R rated for violence and content, just never sat right with me. The Cartoon series HBO did was far better representation of the true comic style and content then the movie was. Not that the movie didn't tell a good story.
I guess, I wasn't a big Spawn (the comic) fan, but there are things that could have been cooler in the movie, unfortunatly in those days (early 90s) I don't think you could pitch an R-rated flick based on a comic. Thankfully the animated series was done ('cause it gave it justice), but it was cut off for not being "marketable" which was a pisser when I watched the last ep and there was no more to come...
Something interesting on the development of this movie:

Personally the first 2 minutes were weird for me, I almost laughed out loud at the voiceover and the not-subtle dialogue... I was a bit worried I would be over-analyzing things or something. Then suddenly it clicked, I felt like I was "living a graphic novel" (that I have not yet read, but now plan to!) and I was in for a hellsaride!
I actually felt chills a few scenes, they were so perfect, the feel and the cinematography and the music... to me it was an experience, a generation-defining work of art. Seriously. And knowing the RR didn't even have an actual script, that he just used Frank Miller's original work - with FM by his side every day of shooting - makes it all the more "special feeling inside" when the credits started rolling. At least for me.
Of course I haven't seen Hellboy ;)

Y'know, this is exactly the kind of thing I didn't want to hear ;) (j/k)
If anyone wants to go again, let me know please :)
I'll see if I can wrangle some more money out of my family budget soon, Mr. A., if no one else wants to go.
Pfft! I can spot you $6 for a movie...
I don't like to borrow money from friends. If I do, I am always antsy to pay it back. I don't mind borrowing from banks or credit card corporations, because it's an arm's-length transaction and there is no friendship at stake.
I don't like just getting money from friends, either. I'm in the pickle I'm in because I have bought so many things on credit, banking on being able to pay it off in the future. It is my problem to pay that debt-load off, and my problem to find money to still go out and get entertained.
Thanks for the thought, though. :) Two more years, and I should be back to having a decent amount of spending cash. Maybe sooner if profit sharing and raises are higher than I expect ($0 and 2% raise per year, respectively).
Anybody want to go this week?
Quote from: "Mr. Analog"Anybody want to go this week?
I think 2 viewings in a 3 day period was enough for me.
But I would totally recommend seeing it On The Big Screen, there's so much my bro' missed by seeing it on a 17" monitor... So hopefully another of our gang-o-geeks will join ya.
