Though I cannot say for sure whether Forza will top Burnout 3 as the fastest looking game on the planet, it's clear GT4 won't. That said, with all car games, switching camera angles makes a big difference in how gamers perceive speed, and it's no different in Forza. The fastest cars in MS's game, however, do freaking rip, even in this early preview build. The McLaren F1 GTR, the Ferrari 88 #IMSA 550, and the Dodge Viper are all astonishingly speedy.
Forza's sense of speed is felt most distinctly in the way the cars handle the road, with grip, cornering, weight transfer and a few other factors distinguishing the sense of speed most drastically. This is as opposed to graphic tricks such as blurring textures or creating wind trails creating a semi-false sense of speed. The preview build of Forza runs at about 30 FPS at best. Though the team originally said the final game will run at 60 FPS, this build does not reflect 60 FPS, and I expect the game to finally run at about 30 FPS. [/quote] -Switching camera angles, check. -Car handling changes at speed, check. -No blurring, check.
The authors talk about the proposed framerate for a while but they don't really assciate that with the feeling of speed which makes me think they just added it to make the Forza block longer.
Look, I have no problems with Forza, I think it's good that the GT series is finally getting some decent competition, but this article seems more about trying to knock down the big dawg with no real hard details. Again, I use the block above because it's typical of other comparisons used later in the article, what makes one game feel speedier? How do the authors know the physics are better in one game than the other, are they race car drivers? Do they have PHDs in physics? Is one game more forgiving than the other?
The only thing that I got out of this article was that Forza will have multiplayer over Live! and that car damage is for sure in this game.
Other things I would have liked to have known include: -Number & variety of tracks compared -Number & variety of licensed autos -Car customization (engine, drivetrain, brakes, tires, paint, etc, etc) compared -Rally racing? -Career mode options? -Car acquisition?
:)
Just to be fair, at the time the article was written, Forza was still in early builds. I just posted it cause it was the only one I could find in the quick 5 mins I looked for it. I'm sure there are better comparisons out there. I was more interested in what our members thought about the games themselves :D.
I understand that, it's why the game is running at only 30 FPS, the music is unfinished and the screenshots look like ass.
I can appreciate the article to some degree, but the comparisons used were very lacking. It looks like it could be a contendah, however the reviewers in the article didn't really make it stand out all that well.
Again, from what I read the authors thought it was better but they couldn't really put it in quantifyable terms.
The AI and online parts sound intriguing, and the screenshots in this article are about 1x10e5 better otherwise it goes over the same points as the first; It's good that the XBox has a racer that finally stacks up to the GT dynasty.
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/driving/forza...ox_review_imageGamespot has a review up now as well.. They cover many things.
After getting my profile up to 4 hours, i have to say its pretty impressive.
Car damage aspect adds a ton of depth that GT4 didnt have. Smacking the wall doing 140mph and smashing in the front end causes stearing issues, grip issues, sometimes even engine issues. Forces a more cautious driving style.
...a hint, start in Asia, the Honda Civic SiR can be boosted to over 350hp for under 10K, which makes the first levels very easy :P

I havent played GT4, but Ralleysport 2 I thought was an excellent game. Im not much into racing games.
Only have an 1hr logged into my profile but I think I am hooked now. Damage adds a lot to the game, its fun compensating for the steering drag when you have slammed the corners one too many times.
Haven't got the car tweaking down yet, but there are some combinations that keep you within a class that give you a big edge thats for sure.
Managed to make my self a sleeper of sorts for one track, not much top end but I was out cornering the pack easy on the twisty course.

Im at level 26. I basically use only 3 cars for everything i can, the rest i buy the best i can, and sell it when im done.
My 3 cars...
2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi - Fully upgraded (AWD races, and every race thats open class, this car is basically unbeatable)
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 - Fully upgraded (RWD races, and anything requiring american made)
1995 Toyota MR2 Turbo T-Bar - Fully upgraded (was my car early, i have an attachment to it and cant sell it).
...i found the Suburu to just own the game. As for like doing the "D" Class (Audi TT), "C" Class (Suburu). Its just a matter of crunching the numbers and comparing driver style.
So far i love how the Vette races, overstear rocks on Laguna, and i can hit 300km/h in about 5 seconds, so the New York track i own.
I chose to Euro for my home, the "D" Class (Audi TT) owns.
Only level 10 so far. Haven't sold any cars that I have won. Already have the 2004 Subaru Impreza, haven't fully tweaked it yet.. some of the upgrades are very costly for that one
I started in Japan, used the Honda Civic SiR, was an easy startup. Ive basically sold everything that ive gotten, lastnight i had $1.9M in the bank.
Quote from: "Shayne"I started in Japan, used the Honda Civic SiR, was an easy startup. Ive basically sold everything that ive gotten, lastnight i had $1.9M in the bank. This hasn't cause problems for having cars that fit the tighter racing restrictions later on? I started with the Audi TT and didn't have many problems, other than getting used to the game overall.
Quote from: "Lazybones"This hasn't cause problems for having cars that fit the tighter racing restrictions later on? It does a bit. Sure, but when its like "D" class or "C" class, the cars that i won are not cars that i would use in the restricted classes. Its better to sell the $75,000 1960 Porche, and buy the $22,000 Audi TT. Same class, but the Audi kills it. I have found that by doing research on the numbers for the restricted classes, i can get away with my system. Concider the 2005 Suburu WRX Sti. Right off the lots its like $40K or something, you can basically easily win all the AWD, <300 HP, Suburu vs. Mitsubishi without upgrading it, you will make about $100K in winnings, + cars. I tryed saving my cars and using them in the races like they suggested, but most of the ones you win are basically middle of the road cars, or at least thats what ive seen.
