Title: Audiophiles Unite!
Post by: Shayne on May 02, 2005, 11:04:48 AM
Im looking at spending some good cash on isolation headphones.  I saw some at the Bose store that were nice, but $400 seems a bit much (and with Bose you pay alot for the name, quality is medium at best these days).

Any companies i should look at?  Models in particular?

To be honest the best place I have found (by far) for headphone selection and decent pricing is Axe Music. Now, personally my tastes lean more towards high end Sennheisers (http://www.sennheiser.com) as I have yet to purchase a bad pair, but there are other brands which are usually used for studio monitoring (like my Roland RH50s, which are not bad considering I got 2 pair for under $50).

So what are your parameters?

...basically i will be using them in 2 locations, and both are the same activity, gaming.  I will either be a) plugging it into my stereo for some xboxing B) plugging it into the computer.

Price range, im looking at in the less then $200 range.

Given that, i hope it answers most of your other more specific questions as im not sure of the answers to them :)

I'll do some digging tonight on "what's hot" in the world of headphones.

Dan's Data seems to review a fair number of headphones, going through some arcane audio tests that Mr. Analog would probably be familiar with.  Here's a link to the review page.  Look under the Speakers and Headphones section.
