Title: New System
Post by: Lazybones on May 28, 2005, 05:56:04 PM
Well its been about 5 years since I built a complete new system, my old one went through several upgrades but it could only go so far.  Hopefully learning from mistakes of the past here is my new system.

CPU : AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939)
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (One step below the SLI edition, forgot I changed that)
Ram: 2 Sticks of Kingston 512MB PC3200 DDR
Video: Sapphire X800 Pro 256MB PCI-E w/ VIVO
PSU: Enermax 535W EG565P-VE ATX 2.0
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami w/ Window

I kept the following components from my last system
Optical Drive: LG GSA-4160B DVD-RW
Hard Drive: ATA133 200GB Hard drive

Future plans:
- Upgrade to a AMD Dual Core processor
- Upgrade to 2 SATA hard drives with NCQ support
- LCD Monitor

Not a bad system.  *jealous*  i refuse to upgrade till AMD does their pin switch...again.  Though ive had no issues with my 3200XP and 9700 Pro for well over 2 years.

Ya, I was thinking about the whole pin switch as well, but since I have been running on a Regular Athlon then upgraded to a 1700+ I felt it was time for a change.

939 will be around for a while longer before the new M2 socket.. So I have planned for at least one CPU upgrade which should be more than enough.

Update, went and picked up a Samsung SyncMaster 712N so that I could better experience my new video card.

Half-Life 2 with all the filters and settings maxed at 1280X1024 sure looks slick..

Even ran 3DMark 05 on it and pushed the bus speed up.. These AMD64 sure run cool with those factory head sinks.. pushed my FSB from 200 to 223 giving me a 2007 Mhz core speed.. Still runs smooth an cool... Might have to push it further.

Get some artifacting when running 3DMark even before I over clocked.. Going to keep an eye out to see if this happens in any REAL games..
